To not know where to book for Easter sun?

40andnotsofabulous · 14/03/2026 09:07

I am wanting to get a week break in sun for Easter. Previously was looking at all inclusive resorts in Egypt and turkey, but with everything going on in Middle East I am not sure I should book this.

Where else would people recommend? Or do you think I should do turkey/egypt?

I’m usually quite unbothered by travel risk but I wouldn’t book Egypt for this easter no. Western Turkey might be ok but risky and tbh not that hot anyway.

Canaries, Madeira, Mauritius, Caribbean, Cancun (if you go after spring break), Morocco.

Strawberryfruitstarburst · 14/03/2026 09:10

What about Tunisia or Morocco? Opposite direction. Wonderful people and cultural
experiences.

Janey90 · 14/03/2026 09:12

I have found the Canaries not quite warm enough at Easter, same with Tunisia and, IMO, you need to be heading a bit further afield.

AmazingGreatAunt · 14/03/2026 09:13

Sri Lanka, yes, it is long-haul, but well worth it. Direct flights from London or Frankfurt.
Alternatively, Kenya, south coast.
Although I am sure that the Balearics, Spain, Italy etc. will also be mentioned. I would actually like to do a trip on the Duoro in Portugal.
Burgundy could also work, either a canal cruise or an organised biking trip?

I’d suggest Cape Verde, Sal. Beautiful, unspoilt island, weather is great, great excursions on offer and the people are very friendly.

RampantIvy · 14/03/2026 09:16

Apparently it is absolute chaos in Tenerife and Lanzarote now and will get busier at Easter. All the people who would have gone to Egypt/Turkey/Cyprus are now going to the Canaries.

I'm not a fan of Tunisia. Madeira is beautiful, but will be pleasantly warm, not hot. Morocco is a possibility.

@AmazingGreatAunt I would love to do a Douro trip as well.

zurigo · 14/03/2026 09:17

For a week I'd go to the Canaries, Madeira, Corfu (or other Greek island) or southern Spain/Portugal. If you'd consider long haul, then there are lots of options.

Not sure I would want to go there given the increased risk of contracting a stomach bug. There have been several threads on this recently.

We had a week in Greece a couple of Easters ago and it was wonderful - about 25° every day, cooler in the evenings and flowers everywhere. I know the Greek weather isn’t fully reliable at this time of year, but it was much better than England! Plus it was v cheap in an Airbnb with cheap flights to Kalamata and very quiet, which was perfect for us.

MyTrivia · 14/03/2026 09:21

Egypt and Turkey are being advised against by the government atm.

There has.

I went in mid-February, stayed in a 5* all inclusive, food absolutely delicious and retuned with no stomach bug.

I did always ask for no ice in my drinks, to avoid potential bugs. I do this in most countries I visit though.

Janey90 · 14/03/2026 09:38

OP, are you seeking hot weather, or would mild weather be ok?

I can imagine it’s busier than usual, but I doubt it’s chaos?

I should have said the airports were pretty chaotic.

Egypt and Turkey are being advised against by the government atm.

That's not what the FCDO are saying in their official advice this morning.

For Egypt it's advising against travelling to certain parts of the country,

For Turkey it's similar, in their case basically avoid the border adjacent to Syria.

Seville and Cadiz. Or Malaga coast like Estepona, Sotogrande etc. If you can get there just before Easter you'll catch the amazing and kind of spooky Semana Santa parades. Lots to do even if weather is mixed, although Easter is a little bit later this year.

Weather is a gamble unless you go to guaranteed spots far away. I wouldn't go to Turkey, Tunisia, Egypt or anywhere in that region until things settle down, if they ever do that is, and the weather is not guaranteed there either. I wouldn't go to the Canaries if you paid me. But that's just a personal opinion of manufactured holiday spots and a longer flight than to mainland Europe.

Catcatcatcatcat · 14/03/2026 10:40

Caribbean?

Goldengirl123 · 14/03/2026 10:45

Southern Spain

40andnotsofabulous · 14/03/2026 13:42

Yes. Looking for a bit of sunshine, am fed up of UK weather!

Seems majority are in same place of not wanting to go to Egypt/ Turkey.

we have a 4year old so not wanting to go particularly long haul which is limiting options somewhat

I should have said the airports were pretty chaotic.

That's often the case. We went to Lanzarote at new year and the airport was dreadful. None of the immigration machines were working on either arrival or departure and when we were leaving the queue for check in and security was so long that I wondered if we'd miss our flight (we didn't).
