in kids films and TV shows, why are badgers usually portrayed as baddies?

I don’t have any particularly negative views regarding badgers but so often they’re the bad guy.

Foxes I get. They’re little shits. Badgers though?

I think as identified upthread it's the combination of 'baddie mask' and black and white striping, reminiscent of prisonwear in days gone by that invokes the bad badgers idea.

Oh and the facts that they are in fact vicious wotsits also identified.

Badgers are mustelids, and everyone knows you don't fuck with mustelids. In descending order of badassery:

Mustelids
Felids
Canids
Rodents

I'm sure many people have seen the videos of a single honey badger triumphing over multiple lions or leopards. Classic mustelid behaviour.
