To stop DH taking DD to Cyprus?

DH’s parents are ex pats who live in Cyprus. He has been looking at booking flights for May, he was going to take our younger child while I stayed home with school aged child.
He’s still looking at flights now and is wanting to book soon, AIBU to say if he wants to go that’s his choice but I’m not comfortable with him taking DD if things aren’t any better? Amongst other things I’m worried about them getting stuck out there.

Yes. I’d hold off going. Are there flight going?

ProfessorRedshoeblueshoe · 07/03/2026 23:58

That's a NO from me

ProfessorRedshoeblueshoe · 07/03/2026 23:59

In fact why doesn't he suggest that his DPs come over here for a holiday ?

TeaSolvesMostThings · 08/03/2026 00:00

@OhDear111 Apparently so, they are flying out to the UK for a week on Wednesday for a funeral. I’m just as worried that they get stuck here and have to live with us for weeks/months! They have our bed, DH goes on sofa and I stay at my mums when they come as we only have 1 adult sized bed in the house as it is! 🤦‍♀️

Is he completely oblivious to lots of other things in the world too? 😂

HeddaGarbled · 08/03/2026 00:11

So, the first issue: who knows where we’ll be by May. The flights will be cancelled if it’s not safe.

The second issue: if they can’t fly home, they’ll have to book a hotel. Clearly, those sleeping arrangements are only manageable short-term.

Havent they heard of hotels

GoldbergVariations · 08/03/2026 00:12

It's a no from me. We wanted to go to Cyprus this year, but have cancelled our plans.

Funkylights · 08/03/2026 00:17

I love Cyprus but am acutely aware of its location and military base. It’s a beautiful place. But I think I’d give it 3-4 weeks myself to see what pans out

sundayvibeswig22 · 08/03/2026 00:18

As he’s somewhere to stay I would prob book the flights if the prices are good. If they’re cancelled then he’ll get the flight price back.

Funkylights · 08/03/2026 00:31

@sundayvibeswig22 I thought that but I guess it depends if OP can afford to loose the cash if can’t get refund

PeonyBulb · 08/03/2026 00:39

Your flight has most likely already been cancelled by now and refunded

TheDaysAreGettingLongerAtLast · 08/03/2026 00:40

Give his head a wobble.
Cyprus is off the holiday list for the foreseeable future.
Anyone booking holidays near a war zone needs their head examined.
Bringing children into a war zone - bonkers.

TeaSolvesMostThings · 08/03/2026 00:44

@likelysuspect apparently not! 😅

@HeddaGarbled That’s very true! I’m really hoping they can get back!

If they come over here and get stuck, then obviously you cannot be expected to stay away from your own home (at your parents' house) for a long period whilst they take residence in your bedroom/house. They could rent an air bnb or something instead.
