What are you doing now?

My now ex would always ask me “What are you doing now?”

We have a child together, so he might check in and ask about his child. But then will slip in a “what are you doing now?”

I’ve always hated that message. Mainly because he wouldn’t necessarily say what he is up to (and it turns out he was a cheat).

Just got that message today and it made me feel weird. AIBU.

I think its just a (fairly imaginative) attempt to make conversation. You can provide loads of detail or just say "nothing much".

Taking your ex out of the equation it's a fairly common and neutral thing to ask. I couldn't get that excited about it tbh.

Does he want something?

If he’s an ex, why is he treating you as his gf?

Write back ‘mind your own beeswax!’

I get that this would be triggering or make you uncomfortable if it was something your ex would ask to put you on the spot and accuse you of something without actually accusing you of something. I would try and just lightheartedly answer something like “pottering about” or “running errands” etc until you’re better able to handle the question and interpret any hidden meaning
