Anyone had a leg ulcer?

Am diabetic so got one now. Awkward place though inside of left foot ankle. GP has given me anti-biotics as she thinks it's infected as it's red all round it. I sent her a pic and is referring me to leg ulcer clinic. The pain is awful, no painkillers seem to help.
Apparently very hard to get rid of. Can take months. Think it needs bandaging and compression too.
Your experiences of these please.

If the wound is below the ankle it's a diabetic foot ulcer and you should be seen by diabetic foot clinic..if it's above ankle it's a leg ulcer. Leg and feet ulcers can be hard to heal. Generally follow the nurses advice..sitting with legs up helps get the blood supply to wound and may help ot to heal.

My husband had a diabetic ulcer on his big toe, caused by a blister. He visited the GP (after much nagging from me )where they debrided it, and he had an urgent referral to the foot clinic. They debrided it some more, and I had to clean and dress it for him at home, between repeat visits to the clinic. He had to make sure he had good control of blood sugar levels to help it heal, which it did eventually. Took about 6 months though.

Diabetic ulcers are not to be messed with. It’s very unlikely to heal on its own. You need to push for referral to wound clinic

Diabetic foot can be a really, really horrible thing. You need to be seen by a specialist clinic. It likely will not heal on its own and could deteriorate if not treated.
