Springfeelings76 · 02/03/2026 09:25

I have long, straight hair that gets greasy SO easily. I'm talking the day after washing. Ive tried the aveeno apple cider shampoo, the loreal purple hydra pure one, the monday clarify one in the pink bottle. What are my fellow greasy haired girls using?? Thank you!

I heard good things about the apple version of Alberto balsam.
Cheap as food from supermarket/ home bargains etc

Wash my hair as little as possible and use dry shampoo in-between. I found that when I switched to washing my hair twice a week, it stopped being greasy pretty quickly.

I’ve used Faith In Nature’s oily hair one for a while but my feeling is there is no shampoo which can save it from being greasy the day after washing, it’s such a pain, especially with a fringe and I have a fringe only to cover frown lines otherwise I’d do away with it because of the grease.

BiscoffCheesecakes · 02/03/2026 09:52

I find the Tresemme replenish & cleanse very good. Or use a dry shampoo in between washes

This is pretty known thing- the more often you wash your hair the more often it’ll become greasy.

Favouritefruits · 02/03/2026 09:55

I think you should try a sulphate free shampoo, I’ve heard great things about it from people with oily hair. One of my best friends only needs to wash her hair once a week now she’s moved to sulphate free shampoo.

Calypsocuckoo · 02/03/2026 10:01

The best one I have found is the colour wow shampoo, it means I can wash hair every other day without any greasiness.
I don’t agree about the more you wash it the greasier it gets, I think everyone is different about what oils your skin produces, and you should wash your skin and hair whenever they need it. I like to have clean and styled hair so wash it every day or every other day and blow dry and straighten it so it looks nice. The colour wow one is expensive but you don’t need much so it lasts ages.

The thing is my hair is so bad I can’t possibly leave the house 2 days after washing

aboutthehousewithmouse · 02/03/2026 10:03

Noughty Back to Balance shampoo and then Superdrug dry shampoo on days 2+. I can miraculously push hair washing to twice a week with this combo.

DaisyChain505 · 02/03/2026 10:06

Also make sure you’re not using hot water to wash your hair. I realised that by washing my hair at the same temp that I shower at (hot as the devils bum) I was causing it to be greasier quicker as I was drying out my scalp which made the oils re-release quicker.

itsamimario · 02/03/2026 10:07

Beauty pie clarifying, and try to wash less frequently

Yep. Can you suffer it for a few days and aim to reduce the amount you wash it?

I always had greasy hair but now only wash it twice a week.

BurntBroccoli · 02/03/2026 10:12

Head and Shoulders (ordinary kind) lathered up twice. Second application on the back of head (tip head forwards). Followed by a light conditioner only on the ends of your hair at first. Just before you rinse scrunch the ends of your into the top section to distribute a little of the conditioner.

goingtotown · 02/03/2026 10:12

DD had very greasy hair she now washes her hair with fairy liquid & after with a normal shampoo for greasy hair. It sounds extreme but solves the problem.

SuperSharpShooter · 02/03/2026 10:18

Aussie stuff works well for my greasy teens. Also less washing, rinsing properly with cooler water and conditioner only on the ends (long curly haired boys)

arfidisarealthing · 02/03/2026 10:18

i'm using the loreal elvive extraordinary oil nourishing shampoo and the garnier aloe vera hair food shampoo. my hair gets even greasier if i use the same shampoo for too long so i'm alternating between these two. the loreal is the best shampoo i've ever used for my hair. it used to get greasy about 6 hours after washing (it was tedious) and now it can last all day without being greasy. i wash my hair every day but thats just what works for me! good luck in finding something that works for your hair :)

CraftyNavySeal · 02/03/2026 10:19

Firstly none of this sulphate free rubbish (most of the apple cider vinegar ones are!). The elvive one is decent but otherwise head and shoulders.

Really scrub it in all over, shampoo twice and really rinse everything out. Then blow dry if you don’t already. You have to make sure your roots are really dry. If you let the roots stay damp you end up with an oily swamp.

You can also get salicylic acid root treatments that help exfoliate

GirlsInGreen · 02/03/2026 10:20

Sunday Shampoo by Bumble & Bumble, spendy but really good.

ok so this might be stupid / just me. But a while back on insta I saw a hairdresser say most people wash their hair wrong. You need to pour the shampoo directly onto the scalp and SCRUB your scalp with your fingers. And do this several times over. Conditioner only at the ends which i knew.

I was always taught to be more gentle with washing in case damage.

Since doing this technique my hair stays clean for days.

MonsteraDeliciosa · 02/03/2026 10:25

It's bizarre, isn't it? In the olden days you got shampoo for dry hair, for normal hair and for greasy hair; now shampoo manufacturers presume we all have dry/damaged hair and want ALL of our products to moisturise, condition or generally add creaminess.

I had a greasy phase during perimenopause and resorted to washing up liquid followed by a nice conditioner!
I'm sure others will have better suggestions.

This tends to work for me (perimenopausal greasy hair!)

rainbowzebra05 · 02/03/2026 10:30

The best I found was an Aldi shampoo with clay in it. The branded version it was a dupe of didn’t work as well. They stopped making it and I’ve not found a replacement as good yet!

Tedster08 · 02/03/2026 10:31

The Alberto Balsam one - raspberry or apple- works for me. It’s about 90p. I’ve also had to stop washing my hair so frequently as it was just making it greasier. I don’t blow dry my hair after washing- I use air dry cream to stop frizz. Hair in much better condition than before.

Hollowvoice · 02/03/2026 10:36

My hair got much less greasy when I switched to using shampoo bars instead of liquid

NamingNoNames · 02/03/2026 10:41

I bought a sulphate-free shampoo and the residue from it made my hair look worse than greasy. They probably vary but it was dreadful.

I've gone back to Alberto Balsam.
