Receiving calls/texts for loan applications- what to do?

Just over a week ago, I started getting texts about loan applications addressed to someone called Taryn (not my name). I just put it down to someone, potentially called Taryn, who mistakenly entered my phone number instead of theirs into a loan application form.

My reaction so far has been to delete and report the texts with my phone’s ‘delete and report’ option on my phone. I haven’t had any new texts for a couple of days now.

Today, I got a call from an unknown mobile number. I picked it up just in case it might be important, and it was a company offering a loan application, so I hung up.

Just wondering if something like this has happened to anyone here before and if i should do anything differently to how I’ve handled it so far (ie ignore the texts and calls)?

Any advice please?

Do a credit history check (look up credit karma for a free app). You may have been subject to identity fraud. If so lodge a dispute (also on app) and approach the lender directly to highlight the fraud.

Do not respond to incoming calls/texts as the other possibility is this is fraudsters trying to harvest information.

Block the numbers.

I’ve had this before but with a recruitment agency texting and leaving voice messages addressed to a different name. I just did what you did and blocked them.

Thanks all! I’ve just checked my credit history on the MoneySavingExpert app and it all looks fine: no loans have been taken out in my name and my credit score and history is as expected. I’ve also blocked the number that called me the other day.

You can add mobiles numbers to TPS now, not just home phone numbers.
That should cut down on some of the cold calls.

Quite possibly Taryn has mistyped his/her mobile number into the website. It's easily done.
