Mechanic caused further damage

I'm posting here for traffic & I don't really know who else to ask.
I have been using my usual car mechanic for a few years now & he does have a good reputation, receives good review.
Coolant liquid seemed to be leaking so he "fixed" the problem and I paid.
One week later I'm out & the problem has happened again & it's caused some damage. There was a little pin hole leak on the pipe. The garage I had to use when I broke down is also a good garage & say the first mechanic should have picked this & a couple of faullts up.
I feel the first mechanic has caused my car further problems resulting in a big bill. If I go & complain he's not going to just hand over the money for his bill. Do I chalk it up to experience or is there something I can legally do?

In addition to this when I rang the RAC they did a telephone analysis & wouldn't send recovery! They listened over the phone to the extremely loud noise the car was making, said it would just be a sensor & to carry on driving the 1 mile to the garage. I pay for full recovery. The garage say the industry is doing more telephone analysis instead of sending someone out. How ridiculous, god knows if driving that extra mile has caused more damage

I think you need to go back to your original mechanic here. I imagine he did a thorough job of replacing the main reason & quite likely only reason for the coolant leak you presented him with. However, and quite likely due to the age/state of repair of your car these things don't last forever. So, although he will have ran the engine and tested the pressure was correct in the coolant system as part of fixing it, and found it secure, a second leak has occurred a week afterwards in the next weakest spot.

Not the mechanic's fault, otherwise it'd have happened on the way home and not a week later.
