To ask DH to get up in the morning if WFH?

Title doesn’t fully explain so bear with me.

This isn’t a massive big deal or anything but I am wondering.

DH usually works in the office; it’s a long commute so he leaves at 7am. He works from home twice a week and I work on these days.

We have two children. Usually they wake at a reasonably civilised time but every six weeks or so our youngest (2) seems to go through a spate of very early wake ups, around 530. I get up with her but honestly it is a bit exasperating listening to DHs peaceful snores.

Every so often he’ll announce he’s WFH on a day I don’t work and I never know whether it’s reasonable or not to say ‘OK - you can take DD then!’ On the one hand I think well, he’s working but on the other I think so am I and he doesn’t get up on those days! So thought I’d ask here.

You need to find a balance that works for you. You say weekends are weekends but not sure what that means. For example when my kids were small my husband would take care of the kids Friday night and Saturday night (as in any night feeds/wake ups) and I would do the rest of it as I was a stay at home mum for a few years - I found this was the right balance for us. You need to find that for you.

In some form or other, he needs to do half of these painfully early starts - whether on days when he’s WFH but you don’t work, or days when you do.

He needs to be hearing your peaceful snores as often as you hear his, and to not mind that he is!

Are you taking the kids to childcare on the days you work? Could he do delivery and collection on those days so you only have to go to work (like he does on his working days). Then they could have a gentler start to the day.

Whoever is working from home gets up with the kids in my house and we do one weekend day each. I do one day a week more as I only work 4 days.

Childcare of your 2 year old should be shared outside working hours, regardless of where those working hours happen to be spent. In particular, the 5.30 starts have to be 50/50.
