Hello all. I've been having extensive dental work for some time now.
Had 1 dental implant recently. No bone graft, cost was £2700.
Decided I would like 1 more implant on the top right side at the back.
Went for scan told had enough bone but will need small bone graft but the cost will be £300 more than last time. Was happy and decided to go ahead with implant.
Got to the dentist this week to be given a date but asked would an extra £2500 be alright for me to pay?
So the bill has now gone from £3000 to well over £5000.
Just wondering what others would do. Also why would they want to charge an extra £2500?

This so weird. Challenge them that the quote you were given before was £3000 ... Ask why it's suddenly over £5K.

Brewtiful · 21/02/2026 15:11

Well the most obvious question is why didn't you ask why it was now considerably more than the previous dental work and the estimate they had given you?

MeDadMeDad · 21/02/2026 15:13

@Brewtiful at the time I thought they meant an extra £250 and not £2500.

So you misheard?

How could you think it was only an extra £250?

This ^

And why have they seen fit to increase a quote agreed to, by you, in good faith

MeDadMeDad · 21/02/2026 15:18

@Brewtiful it sounded like he was talking hundreds not thousands and considering I've had a implant for £2700. I can't understand why this one would be costing well over 5k.

It's only when I seen the cost on the ipad that I was upset and shocked at this new quote.

I don't understand how the confusion arose surely he would have said £250 or 25 hundred?

Either way if you have a written quote surely you just call back and discuss why it's now suddenly so much more expensive?

ETA if you saw it on the iPad whilst there did you not ask him at the time?

babasaclover · 21/02/2026 15:22

How long ago was the first one? If within last year or so I’d just say no to the quote

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 21/02/2026 15:25

Did he say '2 and a half' or '2.5'? And you thought hundred, he meant thousand?

Ebsalami · 21/02/2026 15:25

Didn’t you have the e quote /estimate in writing? Either way, why not just ask regents why it’s changed so much?

HaroldMeaker · 21/02/2026 17:15

So the new quote is £5700? 2700 for the first one and 2700 plus extra 300 for the second. What am I missing!

She's already paid for the first.

Shinyandnew1 · 21/02/2026 17:22

How did you think it was £300 more than last time? Did they say that?

not £250 more?

Why haven’t you asked them?

No, I wouldn’t pay £5000 for something I thought would be £2800.
