Silly clothes-washing argument

If your partner/spouse bringing the laundry basket downstairs to wash, would you expect her to be upset if you picked out only your clothes and put them on to wash while she was out walking the dog before work?

Or is my DP just a dickhead?

Did he then leave and expect you to hang it out?

That was my argument, basically asking him why on earth he would do that. I'd already sorted darks from lights so he could have just bundled one load in.

He said 'it'll all get washed anyway...'

No trip or anything that means he needs all his clothes done first.

Remember to bring it up if he moans the electricity bill is higher than normal this month that he decided to make it so there was extra washing loads as part of the cause for the higher bill

I think it’s his way of saying he’d prefer to do all his own laundry from now on.

Sorry, rambled too much and confused my sentence subjects.

I'm the wife. My husband saw me bring the mixed load down, then while I was out, picked out only his things and put them on to wash.

We normally just take turns doing washing, never separate by person.

It's a very inefficient way to wash. I only ever wash full loads.

Why does he do it?

HeadyLamarr · 17/02/2026 18:55

Guess who's on laundry duty for the family for the rest of the month, @panpanpanpanpan ?

Because it sure as shit isn't you.

Complete non event

We do.our own, I prefer it that way
Zero drama

I'd be annoyed too. This is what my teenager might do, and I'd still be furious. No excuse for a grown man

How do you split non clothes items - bedding towels, tea towels etc?

I sort my washing by colour and if we each did our own washing we would be using the washing machine twice as much as it is currently being used. It would be such a waste of resources and not great for the environment
