Unfair Jelly Babies

lookluv · 15/02/2026 22:48

Today I opened a packet of Jelly babies and there was one lime and one purple jelly baby - the rest were orange lemon and raspberry. I feel cheated!

The same with Skittles - I want more purple ones not all the lemon and oranges.

Why do companies do this or an I just bloody unlucky!

OP posts:
Morepositivemum · 15/02/2026 22:49

We are so different op, Id have been happy with those!!!

ByPeachPeer · 15/02/2026 22:52

Write a complaint letter, my friend did this and got vouchers for loads of free packets 🤣

NotAnotherScarf · 15/02/2026 22:57

It's strange that there is such an imbalance. The same is true of purple fruit pastels. I think it's because the ingredients are more expensive so they make less and pad the packets out with the crap ones

TheChosenTwo · 15/02/2026 22:58

Urgh, lemon and orange sweets are always the worst ones. Red, green and then purple at a push.
Although jelly babies are also my worst kind of sweet, I find the texture unsettling 🤣

LifesabagofRevels · 15/02/2026 23:00

You can get bags of Fruit Pastilles with just red and black ones! Game changer.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 15/02/2026 23:05

I only like the citrusy flavours so I think yabu 😂

FrankSinatraonToast · 15/02/2026 23:06

I bought a bag of Sainsbury's assorted mints and was distraught when there wasn't a single mint toffee and only a couple of humbugs. Loads of clear mints though 😒

worstnotholiday · 15/02/2026 23:10

Yabu because I would have loved that combo op. My favourite sweets are orange. Hate the green ones (moams are an honourable exception). I disagree with the categorisation of “orange , lemon and raspberry” as really the red yellow and orange ones taste nothing like those fruits. The “raspberry” particularly.

The single worst thing that ever happened to sweets though- was the introduction of the purple starburst (nee opal fruit) which is just horrible. Even though I don’t like green sweets I appreciate the crime commited here. The green opal fruit was loved by many (not me) the purple is surely universally hated?!

Fgfgfg · 15/02/2026 23:14

I feel your pain, although I had some luck with a bag of Jelly Tots a few months ago. They were mostly lime and DP doesn't like the lime ones.

Clubbiscuit · 15/02/2026 23:17

The lime are my 100% favourite.

lime
lemon
orange
red (whatever that is)
purple

Btw I once wrote to Spelga (NI yogurt company) to complain about zero cherries in my cherry yogurt. They send me a 2 page detailed letter explaining how the yogurt is made, the dangers of large cherries having to be constantly churned thus creating a potential imbalance in the quantity received etc and a £15 voucher for their yogurts. In the 80s, one yogurt was about 25p, I think, so that was a helluva lot of yummy yogurts for 18 year old me. So I think you should photograph them and complain. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Bellabatwings · 15/02/2026 23:48

Switch to m and s jelly babies, they actually taste of fruit unlike bassets, and the mix of flavours is more equal.

CoolFineDoneWicked · 15/02/2026 23:54

The red and purple ones are the worst. The citrus ones are much nicer, especially the green and yellow. I firmly believe in a blind taste test people would choose green and yellow every time, I think it's just the colour that makes people think they don't like green ones.

NormasArse · 15/02/2026 23:57

I bought a two pack of fruit mentos- both packs were 3/4 lemon.

This was three weeks ago and I’m still put out.

FreakyPheasant · 15/02/2026 23:58

What did the police say?

Namechange546 · 15/02/2026 23:59

Not interested in the jelly babies but
I'll swap my purple skittles for your oranges.

And I'll have any greens that are going spare.

JayJayj · 16/02/2026 00:22

That would be my dream. I feel I never get enough lemon in my sweet!!

I did that with Jaffa cakes once! Got about £8 worth of JC vouchers from them 👌

And another time with Fab ice lollies. They sent me a gift pack with Fab flipflops, a Fab tote and vouchers for a box of Fab ice lollies 😅

Do it OP, write to them!

OneMoreForLuck · 16/02/2026 12:51

I once wrote to Cadbury as my Wispa Gold was solid chocolate - no bubbles, no caramel.

They sent me a £2 voucher (would have bought 4 Wispa Golds at the time) but also their letter of reply was insultingly sarcastic! "You must have been so disappointed..." etc.

Also, this will out me, but I've long wanted to write to Heinz with a pic of their spaghetti hoops, and complain that their Alphabetti Spaghetti was really boring as it only contained O's ...

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 16/02/2026 14:01

You're right to feel aggrieved. If this Government had any backbone they would introduce legislation to prevent this sort of thing happening instead of wasting Parliamentary time on Greenhouse Gas Emissions.

BrendaSmall · 15/04/2026 07:52

not worse than picking a green sweet out thinking it’s lime and it turns out to be apple 🤢
I only like lime or lemon sweets

Totally agree. Haribo are evil for doing this.

HumerousHumous · 15/04/2026 21:32

Mmmm and Quality Street that only have four green triangles in an entire tin and masses of toffee pennies. Gits.

And Revels full of toffee and no maltesers or orange and coffee cream ones. Don’t buy these any more anyway because they’ve shrunk from 130g to about 89g. Gits.

YANBU

JustSawJohnny · 15/04/2026 22:08

Neither green nor purple are my faves in jelly sweets BUT when eaten together? ELITE!!

Hillarious · 15/04/2026 22:17

Going off on a bit of a tangent, I just wanted to say, after working at Bassett’s back in the 80s, that there’s nothing nicer than a freshly made jelly baby, regardless of flavour. You had to walk through the jelly department to get to CLP (continuous liquorice production), and could grab a handful to eat throughout the morning shift.

PinkPonyAnonymous · 15/04/2026 22:18

They should just stop making the orange ones
