Why are people reverting back to this disgusting habit? Don’t they remember Covid?

Also the old saying coughs and sneezes spreads diseases works.

Also why are people (particularly the elderly) are reverting back to holding cash, coupons and lottery tickets in their mouths before handing these over to shop staff? My friends work in retail and noticed past 2 years more people are doing this. My friends and their colleagues refuse to accept any money etc they have seen being held in customers’ mouths. If these customers demand to speak to a manager. Manager backs the staff 100%.

YANBU.

I will say though, this cold virus that's around at the moment has a weird cough - a couple of times I've had zero warning I'm about to cough, it's like a choke more than a cough, so no time to put my hand up 😳 makes me feel like a superspreader toddler

Yanbu people are gross

Just because she has a different opinion to you, doesn’t mean she practices poor hygiene.
I’m sure she’s capable of having an opinion on a subject without having a personal motive.

Haha good one, very clever.
So now not only are people unable to disagree without having a personal motive…anyone who simply acknowledges another persons capacity to must also share that motive too? Huh.
And you added emojis so that strengthens your point. It must be true.

I sat next to someone in an art workshop the other week and we were sharing masking tape, easiest tape in the world to break and yet she used her teeth then passed it to me- I felt quite ill at the thought of it . You are right OP basic hygiene has gone completely out of the window since covid ,yuck,I wouldn't want to handle money from someone's mouth either.

HouseReTurn · 17/02/2026 15:42

Dirty cash and coupons in mouth? No bloody way.

Fingalscave · 17/02/2026 15:47

I used to work in a University and if I was doing an induction for students, I always told them never to hold their ID cards in their mouths. I told them it wasn't fair to University staff to have to hold a card with someone's spit on it.
