Why did this man key my car?

Pulled up to walk my dog at some woods/fields. There were puddles / pot holes in the small patch that is the car park. The field entrance has a long gate for the tractor which I did my best to avoid. I am slightly limited in where I can park as I have to use a ramp for my old dog. I’m a considerate person and wouldn’t dream of parking anywhere that would inconvenience the farmer (or anyone). As I get the dog out this man who is in a white van tells me I can’t park there as I’m blocking the entrance for the farmer. People pleaser to a fault. In my head I thought “no I’m not theres plenty of space” but said “oh do you think? I thought I left enough room. No matter. I will move”. So I hooked my dog to the gate and moved with no issue. I was perfectly polite. No stern word was spoken. It seemed all very cordial.

Took my dog for his 5 minute walk. And my car has been keyed! For no reason at all! I complied completely with this person who was throwing his weight around. As a 5 ft 2 woman I wasn’t going to have words with a man who I could tell was on a bit of a power trip.

Im just really upset by it. I don’t know what more I could have done

Ge just had a horribly patronising tone and I hope he gets his karma! Having a really hard time with my dad and his Alzheimers.

Because he could.

No other reason.

AlphabetBird · 10/02/2026 16:35

You know the answer - he's an angry little prick who has beef with the world. Maybe he thought you weren't grateful enough for his advice, maybe just being a woman out in public was enough.

Sorry about your car, it's a shitty thing to do to someone.

ladyofshertonabbas · 10/02/2026 16:39

Do you know who keyed it though?

AnSolas · 10/02/2026 16:39

Because he is a nasty small minded man who knew there were no cameras there to catch him.

If it was his land or he planned to work you would have gotten an earful.

I mean we were in the middle of nowhere. 98% of the time I don’t even see a soul on this walk. I didn’t make it far from the entrance as my dog walks at a snail’s pace. I think I would’ve heard a car pull up. I can only assume it was this man. We were literally gone for 6/7 mins.

I know the farmer and this was not him!

Because he’s an arsehole.

SnowyRock · 10/02/2026 16:44

As you said, you weren't even blocking the gate. Hes a miserable person and takes it out on others, wanted an argument and didnt get it so got his anger out on your car instead.

Amori · 10/02/2026 16:45

Just needed a moan. It’s all so unnecessary. One thing if I actually stood up to the bully. But I couldn’t have been more polite.

I see. What a horrible horrible man. 😔

ginasevern · 10/02/2026 16:52

I'm so sorry OP. How incredibly upsetting especially with everything else you've got going on. Unfortunately a lot of men (far too many in my opinion) hate women. It gave him a massive power trip and he knew he wouldn't get caught - so he's a pathetic fucking coward too. You never know, he might well be a violent man and a domestic abuser. Your only crime was being female. I've had similar happen to me and it takes a long time to get over. Sending love and strength.

Happyjoe · 10/02/2026 17:00

Am sorry OP, he's another idiot. So distressing when this is just vindictive. Not much to say other than hope can get the car sorted ok and sending a hug over MN. Hope something lovely happens for you instead soon.

WearyAuldWumman · 10/02/2026 17:01

I'm sorry, @Amori . When you're already having a tough time, you really don't need the last straw of this type of unkindness.

Pomegranatecarnage · 10/02/2026 17:06

I had a similar thing happen some years ago. I managed to track the guy’s wife down on FB through a local group, then I told the police (who to my surprise visited him). He still denied it was intentional and said he’d had a pair of secateurs sticking out of his pocket. Some men are pathetic-they probably don’t even think women should drive….
