Would you complain about this?

My husband bought his mum a LeLabo canndle as a gift.

They customise the labels so he had a messsage put on it.

The sales assistant wrapped it all up but didn't show it to him first.

Whem mil opened it she was absolutely delighted but he noticed that the woman in the shop had really botched sticking the label on & it has creases & lumps in it in 4 places.

These are stupidly expensive candles & he wanted to treat his mum for an occassion

He bought it saturday & gave it to her yesterday & wants to bring it back

He hasn't said anything yet to mil

Would you complain? It really does look like a 5 year old stuck on the label!

Absolutely, if its that expensive it should be perfect.

Motnight · 09/02/2026 08:27

Just looked up the prices of LeLabo candles. Yes I would complain - also seems really sneaky of the sales assistant not to show your DH what he was actually paying for.

isitmytime · 09/02/2026 08:29

Knowing the price of these, yes I absolutely would. I’d expect a replacement so the label was perfect

EvangelineTheNightStar · 09/02/2026 08:34

Also just looked at the website ouch! Although the labels on there look a bit wonky too… is it maybe part of their “look”? 😬

Would you complain about this?
HoskinsChoice · 09/02/2026 08:34

Even on the website the label isn't on straight and looks shite. It's an incredibly ugly label even if it was on straight. Surely you just take the label off though so it doesn't really matter? I couldn't be arsed with the fuss of arguing them over something that you're going to bin anyway.

Lmnop22 · 09/02/2026 08:43

Is it worth it over a label? The candle is the same and the scent etc will be unaffected. Just laugh it off as a rubbish label and move on, perhaps a gift reminiscent of the stuff DH would bring home from
nursery back in the day - perfect because of the thought that went into it even if it’s a bit askew

Oldartist · 09/02/2026 08:55

A wonky label would drive me crazy, hopefully it’s easily removed. I was expecting something much, much nicer though. If the above is an example, oh dear! It looks ghastly, like something from a discount outlet, not a premium brand. I’d think my son had bought me a thoughtful but £3.50 gift.

The labels look really tacky, just cheap and generic. I'd expect something way nicer than that for the money.

But if you're going to take it off, what difference does it make? It's not a pretty branded label (like a Jo Malone type) that are part of the candle, its just info.

It is odd though. Why stick it on the glass? I'd be more pissed off that I had to take the label off than whether it was straight.

I'm assuming if it has a personal message on it it's not intended to be taken off.

I’m torn. For that price it should be perfect. If I’d seen it in the shop I would’ve said and asked them to redo it, so it’s a bit rubbish she didn’t show him, But MIL is happy with it, sounds like she didn’t even notice. Is it worth the faff? What I’d probably do is take a photo and email the store, and see what they say. Might send you a discount voucher for your next one.

Tillow4ever · 09/02/2026 09:34

How much are these? I don’t want to google them and have candles and shit popping up on sponsored ads etc going forwards!

Without knowing the price my first thought was “really? You’d complain over a wonky label?” So my question is this - as it’s expensive, are you paying that much because you like the candle/think the candle is worth it or purely for the personalised label? If the latter, then yes - take it back and complain. If the former, then no, the candle is still doing its job and you weren’t paying for the label anyway.

You could always leave a review online for that shop telling people to check before they wrap it and why.

Pushmepullu · 09/02/2026 09:42

I think you are bu saying ‘bring it back’. It should be ‘take it back’!

In the case of the candle, yes he should take it back. His mum is probably wondering if it’s a fake.

JoyOfSpecs · 09/02/2026 09:50

Every single one of the the labels on their website look all over the place, creased and wonky too.

They look like the labels you get on prescription medicines to me.

BauhausOfEliott · 09/02/2026 10:08

If you look at pictures of the candles online, a lot of them have wonky labels. The labels are meant to look like practical, workshop type labels that have been put on by hand. They're not meant to look like perfect, machine-added designer labels. They're meant to look individual, so that each one looks handmade and different. That's part of the brand.

chunkyBoo · 09/02/2026 10:13

I can’t believe people charge so much for candles - like Meghan Markles’ idiotic candles, cheap looking tat, personally I’d write a bad review and show a picture of the label with redacted bits if necessary

TheChosenTwo · 09/02/2026 12:21

I bought my mum a le labo perfume for her birthday, the label was awful! I was a bit annoyed as it cost a fair amount for their biggest bottle but realised it was only going to sit in a drawer and didn’t affect the scent. But it did look scruffy and shoddy!
A candle will be on display, I guess she could just turn it round…

I agree but it's all very personal isn't it. I'd very happily spend loads of money on things that others wouldn't, (a bottle of wine, a Michelin star restaurant, a holiday), but I have zero understanding why people spend so much on handbags, face creams and candles. I had to do some serious happy acting when someone wasted a shit tonne of money on a Jo Malone candle for me. I can't help but think about the lovely wine I could have bought for the same money.

Oh yes, wine before candles e dry time … but with a decent label!

FcukBreastCancer · 09/02/2026 12:50

£68. I couldn't help myself and will now be getting candle ads all day

What do you mean by he wants to bring it back? For you to use at home and buy her a replacement with a better label?

That sounds sensible to me but I haven't googled so don't know how much money we're taking about.

From the photo posted above it doesnt look expensive. Why don't they come with the labels on?

NoFiller · 09/02/2026 12:57

That’s outrageous that the label was lumpy. I know that the death penalty in the UK was abolished for treason in 1998 but I would be instructing a top law firm urgently to investigate whether it could still be applied for this heinous act by the sales assistant.
