To ask for your split second decisions... that resulted in chaos

...to make me feel better.

DD2 has ASD. I asked her to bring me some decorating supplies. I didn't specify where to put them. I was painting in her room but she couldn't cope with me disturbing it too much, so I had just shifted furniture around, which meant that the only way out of her room was over her bed.

I needed to join a Zoom call and decided to just hop across the bed. It was stupid - I should have been careful and checked what was under/around the dust sheet, but I wanted to be quick. I sprang across the mattress and, too late, saw that DD2 had placed the tin of gloss on her bed. It bounced into the air, onto its side, and the lid popped off, dumping ⅔ of a tin of gloss onto the floor.

Saving graces: it was water based and the floor is bamboo, which is quite forgiving. But oh my goodness how long does it take to mop up approximately 1.5 litres of brilliant white trade gloss!!

Not a split decision but a similar story to yours.

I was out at work and my DH was looking after our 4 whilst fixing computers (he was self employed at the time). They were about 1,3,5,7.

I got a message saying “don’t come home yet”.

of course I went home straight away!

Eldest Dd had decided she did not like her blue carpet. And we had recently painted the dining room red. And of course red and blue makes purple! Her fave colour!

So she took the red paint upstairs and persuaded her siblings to help her paint her carpet. Which they did. And the walls. And the hallway. And the other bedrooms. And themselves.

it was utter carnage. Honestly, I’ve never seen such a mess!!

Now that's what I needed to hear.

ADHD plus dyspraxia brings its own special form of chaos. And a lot of bruises!

ToriMounj · 08/02/2026 23:36

Oh yes! And the amount of paint on them! And in their hair! And they’d walked it through all the rooms.

No so much a split second decision as a brain fart a couple of weeks ago.

Grabbed a mug to make hot chocolate in the microwave, set it going and went off to do something. Came back and grabbed it a couple of minutes later only to register very quickly it had a metallic glaze on the handle...cue a lot of swearing and three burnt fingers which are still healing.
