Reaction to Trumps video

I appreciate there are already threads about the video that was posted yesterday and it’s clearly disgusting and abhorrent and almost impossible to believe that an elected official would post such a thing, aside from a leader of a country.

However, I was surprised to see there were not protests in the streets in response to this. Whilst I believe any decent human being should be offended by this, I would have expected certain parts of the US community to have instantly rallied to demonstrate against him. I expected this morning to wake to such scenes on the streets but haven’t seen any in the news. I wondered if anyone with more insight might offer their thoughts.

Have you seen all the streets! There are protests daily at the moment.

I was referring to mass protests, specifically in response to yesterday’s video. Not just the general and understandable reaction to his presidency and ongoing behaviour.

The video was rightly and widely condemned and then taken down.
There was no need for people to take to the streets.

I agree with you, OP, but let's not forget that two American citizens have recently been executed for protesting in the streets, and many others have been harassed and arrested for protesting peacefully against the Trump regime.

I am sure some will brave it to go out onto the streets, but there may be some who are questioning whether it would be safe to do so.

Yes I also believe the high profile ICE killings has impacted the reaction to this. However I would have thought that organised and mass supported rallies would be one considered way to show the general disgust at this video. That way the incidents that we have seen can not be so easily brushed off by the Republicans as localised or marginalised and not representative of the population.

I’m not sure I agree with this. It was rightly and widely condemned but the Press Secretary for the Republican Party responded saying there was ‘fake outrage’ to the video and asked the media to comment on points that the American public were actually interested in i.e. not this topic. There has been no apology from Trump. Just because something has been taken down does not mean it was seriously wrong to post in the first place and this is something that a political party that represents half the country believed was acceptable to publish. The seek forgiveness avenue can surely never be acceptable in this instance.

I don't disagree with anything you say OP, but to be fair a third of Americans couldn't even be bothered to vote in the last election so they're not going to get off their arses to stand in the street with a placard.

The rest either voted for him - in which case they probably liked his post and are glad he 'said it as it is'.

Or they didn't vote for him and they know him to be an unapologetic, racist, misogynist, bullying, devious cunt of a man and are either already protesting about other things or a just waiting for him to a) die or b) serve his time and fuck right off.

Your’e right, although it is a sad synopsis of a situation. Your summary of Trump did make me chuckle though 😂
