Dewi Evans - there's something seriously wrong with him, right?

I'm amazed this guy actually 'got the job'.

He's got a very chequered past. Accusing an innocent mother of having Munchausen's by Proxy, when in fact her child had Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, where tumors cause a build up of acid and painful peptic ulcers.

In July 1997, Evans attended a social services case conference and said there was nothing wrong with Bonnie but that her mother "has problems". Evans said the mother suffered from the syndrome "attention seeking by proxy"

The judge later described Dr. Evans' report in that case as "worthless" and accused him of "proffering an opinion that was better than his actual knowledge."

Evans's clinic and Social Services ensured that Linda and Bonnie were permanently separated; Bonnie was distraught, as was Linda. Due to her parents' efforts, Bonnie's illness was treated.

I find it slightly odd that this didn't automatically bar him from being the expert witness in the Lucy Letby case. And that it isn't talked about very much (I haven't seen it mentioned anyway).

There is something not right about him.

He seems like an opportunist. Dare I say narcissist.

Also where has Ravi Jayaram fucked off to?

I think he has no choice but to keep his head down now after so much abuse from crazy Letby lovers.

Are you him? 🤣

No, I didn't edit the Wikipedia page (lol). It's a well documented case. Someone just hasn't sourced it properly on wiki but the same info is out there. If you have an issue with me copying and pasting though that's fine, I cba to type up the same thing again. You can read the ruling from Lord Justice Jackson, if you like. It's a public record.

Thinking someone is a narcissist and questioning their bizarre behaviour is a bit different to having a Vendetta against them though. And, what results? I'm having a conversation not trying to get him reported to the GMC (as you said, he hasn't practiced in years....).

I don’t have an issue with you copy pasting. Just bemused anyone can diagnose ‘narcissism’ and ‘bizarreness’ from a poorly referenced wiki posting having never met a person. Yet question how a jury can make an decision based on a 10 month trial, 10k pieces of evidence, multiple medical experts other than Dewi and Lucy’s own in-person testimony. A verdict that’s stood upto 2 appeals. But I’m not invested enough in her case anymore or this thread as her conviction was sound enough for me, so will bow out.

TofuTuesday · 05/02/2026 23:31

He kind of reminds me of Mark Williams Thomas - both of them popping up in popular cases and being quite vocal.

You'd be surprised just how many "experts" there are that are completely unqualified and yet can ruin people's lives.

Yes, I’ve had this through the family court. It’s terrifying being up against an expert witness who is clearly a charlatan. It’s like fighting a rising wave. It takes months and years to rectify the destruction these people can cause through the legal channels. An experienced barrister can pick them apart.

Firefly1987 · 05/02/2026 23:57

People are aware he wasn't the sole prosecution witness right?

Why didn't that happen then? Are you saying Letby's defence was the problem?

Haven't seen the doco. Dewi Evans sounds frankly a bit odd to say the least, but then so do a lot of people involved in the case. So do Letby and her parents. I'm not troubled by her conviction.

He’s a charlatan.
His ego must be visible from space.
seems to have a chip on his shoulder about being Welsh, rather than a London big wig, all his own projection.
as someone with Welsh heritage he is a disgrace.

Are you the same person who edited the Wiki with this same text where your source content hasn’t been validated? Or are you just copy pasting sections from Wiki with the ‘better sources needed’ banner - because they’re a personal website rather than mainstream media or scientific papers.

Either way - your vendetta against him isn’t going to yield results because he’s retired, and both her appeals were rejected. He was believable to a jury and ultimately their opinion is the only one that matters, given the depth and scale of evidence they reviewed. And you know the fact they were the jury. CCRC is last chance saloon and they will only consider significant new evidence or testimony not presented previously - they don’t care about the expert witnesses’ background if he was legally appointed. You’ll just have to wait for the CCRC decision, until then she’s going to be serving her whole life tariff. Everyone else’s life carries on except those who’s identity is now inexplicably tied to the fate of a convicted child killer. This is the beauty of the English justice system - it isn’t influenced by public opinion.

And yet an Appeal Court Judge was sufficiently perturbed to email the trial judge to express concerns at the use of this same expert witness...

It feels like Sally Clark’s case all over again. Who remembers that statistic.

Evan’s supported the prosecution expert in Sallys trial I read somewhere. She was eventually found innocent but drunk herself to death. These grandiose men have such a lot to answer for.

Many of which work in this field & have a bit more knowledge than the general public. You carry on with your crazy letby lovers let’s hope you don’t have baby that needs care

Think he ( Evan’s) has been tied to other prosecution witnesses e.g he previously worked with them( female doctor on jersey happy to be wrong though)

You do know Evan’s causes of death were his opinion they were hypothesis not fact. Dr Lee with the expert panel review all the court evidence on the understanding whatever they found they would release publicly. Evan’s was never even a neonatologist he has now been retired a a pediatrician for 20yrs. They have given their expert opinion of how those babies died all were natural causes but poor medical care was highlighted throughout.

Elishiva · 06/02/2026 02:36

“You carry on with your crazy letby lovers let’s hope you don’t have baby that needs care”
Most babies need some level of care unless you home birth, thankfully my own didn’t need nicu but my niece and nephew were both born prematurely and needed nicu for a few days, it’s a stressful worrying time.
There is no evidence anyone harmed those babies.
Vulnerable Babies die on badly run, infected, falling down units.
Lucy letby was a scapegoat for the numerous failings of that unit.

Piglet89 · 06/02/2026 07:00

He has a massive axe to grind against what he sees as the “establishment” in medicine (basically, in his view “posh” RP speaking consultants).

Guy is a TOTAL liability.

Passaggressfedup · 06/02/2026 07:26

Many rulings are made on the basis of the best evidence that can be provided. Best doesn't mean accurate. That's how the system work though.

The thing is, even if witnesses' characters can be questioned and doubt casted around the validity of their testimony, it doesn't lead to the conclusion that the accuse must therefore be innocent.

There are and will remain cases that can never be fully explained, no matter the pool of experts who are called to give their opinion. Because even experts' expertise is limited.

It's terrible to think that an innocent person is serving a life sentence because they were judged on closest case scenario rather than the truth. It's also horrible to think that the worse criminal in the country can get away from punishment if we consider that they can only be convicted basis of unrefuctable scientofic evidence which currently is only limited to dna evidence. Even then, dna is not exact 100% and then there is proving the evidence wasn't planted...

This is the best system we have currently. Maybe one day there will exist a truth sensor that will make the legal system redundant. In the meantime...

I’m glad other people are seeing him as the lunatic he is, unfortunately there are so many male doctors like him. They have god syndrome and they get reinforced by thick idiots around them. He will never believe anything he says or thinks is incorrect. Interestingly I’ve never come across a female doctor of any age with these traits.

ExitViaGiftShop · 06/02/2026 07:37

I watched the Lucy Letby documentary last night and I’d never heard of this man before, however my gut feelings about him, whilst watching him being interviewed on the TV screen was of arrogance and I felt he was utterly incredulous and furious that his expert witness evidence was being questioned. He’s that white privileged male who believes he is beyond criticism and scrutiny. Often to be found in positions of power, and who never get questioned. It’s case closed as far as he is concerned. I thought the barrister who is questioning the verdict, came across really well. I’ve no idea if she is guilty of not. I feel completely confused by this case.

Nyungnyung · 06/02/2026 07:38

It is really hard to get medical experts - working doctors do not have the time to spend on this sort of work and the ones who volunteer are often a strange lot.

Medicine is very much about learning to manage uncertainty, there is a rarely a black and white answer to complex problems and almost always alternatives to consider. The courts and often general public, can’t manage uncertainty in the same way and someone like Dewi Evan’s would be very convincing to people who are not experienced in managing uncertainty. If you look at doctors forum in the UK, so many are concerned about his testimony and that he is so sure of his opinions - this is one neonatologist to follow here

Dr Svilena Dimitrova (@NeoDoc11) on X

When I first heard about Lucy Letby's case, I had no reason to doubt the allegations against her. I began following the case because, as a neonatologist with a further interest in risk management and patient safety, I felt I needed to understand how it...

Sweetiedarling7 · 06/02/2026 07:41

I agree.
I would also say that initially just watching him describe how he approached the police for the job in the Lucy Letby case I found him “off”.
Nothing I have read about him since has changed my mind.
Comparing him to the array of international experts who have said that the evidence is completely flawed is like comparing what a bloke down the pub says to a treatise from Einstein.

Yes, and some of the other witnesses (Ravi Jayaram for one) lied under oath.

Also they were all basing their evidence off Dewi's theories.

loellajames · 05/02/2026 22:23

I thought they came across terribly too. The way the female police officer was interviewing her was awful. They kept asking her if she didn't do it, to give an alternative reason why the babies died. I found that really bizarre. It's not her job to give them alternatives, only to defend herself. It was such a strange line of questioning.

Edited

I’m glad you’ve said that because I found that so bizarre I was almost going to start a thread about it.

Why the heck would it be up to LL to find an alternative theory/explanation as to what happened to the babies?

Am I being really thick?
