Scared to take citalopram

I’ve always had anxiety but had it somewhat controlled. After a traumatic birth and other life stresses it’s just getting worse. I also have a real fear of being sick.

my GP prescribed me 10mg of citalopram. I’ve had them a few days but I’m terrified to take them because of side effects. I don’t want to be stuck in my own head any longer though. Most nights I worry what if I’m going to be sick with a bug. Especially now my daughter is in nursery.

would love a bit of reassurance and any experiences people have of this.

Thanks everyone. I’m fed up of feeling this way :( had another bad night convinced I’m getting a sickness bug and feeling sick and heart hammering. Yet I’m scared to take these tablets. I feel so irrational I know.

It is not irrational. It's a horrible drug.

Caused really bad nausea in me and issues qith sexual function. I couldn't climax no matter what. I researched it and that can be permanent with long term use. The side effects just werent worth it so I binned them after 3 days.

I took it when I had very bad post natal anxiety. I was prescribed 20mg and was on it for about 6 months and weaned slowly off successfully. It really helped me I had very little in terms of side effects but it does take a couple of weeks to get into your system when you can often feel worse before better. With regards your sick tummy that could be your anxiety but I get diarrhoea from most tablets tbh, particularly vitamins, it will ease. I would advise speaking to your gp about your concerns because if you do decide not to take it they need to know.

It is a horrible drug but I found out the hard way that an off label antipsychotic prescribed for severe insomnia and anxiety after a head injury was really horrible. So horrible that it gave me a permanent neurological involuntary movement disorder called tardive dyskinesia 💔😫

Many psychotropic drugs are absolutely horrid and neurotoxic.

And many studies say that antidepressants just aren't worth it unless you have an extremely severe and ubilitating case of depression or other mental health conditions.

The drawbacks outweigh the benefits if it's not severe.
