Your experiences with Police Complaints Please?

Have any of you complained to your local police about something?

After you submit your complaint you get a ref number and it says we will be in touch within 28 days.

This time has well passed now.

I chased it up. Was told they had received it but not much more.
AIBU to find this unsatisfactory? I don't think I am.
Why state 28 days if you don't stick to it?

I want a more specific response especially as the 28 days is well over now.
Why do we have to keep chasing things up?

Can they tell me when I will hear?

Is this common with police Complaints?

Anyone got any experience please?

No need for specifics about the complaint needed, just about the process. Did your hear?

Never have complained. But why not contact the police commissioner...god knows what they do but they might help you with this

I had an acknowledgment to my complaint quite quickly and a named person who would deal with it. A different person contacted me a couple of weeks later - I wasn’t happy with the “resolution” so the whole thing was a waste of time !

It was a good few years ago and I can’t remember the timescales but I definitely felt I was taken seriously and listened to, I was assigned a specific person who I met with more than once and who kept me updated all the way through
I think it helped that it was a specific complaint about one individual and I had evidence
Found out much later that I wasn’t the first to complain about this individual and they were quite grateful that my complaint and evidence allowed them to get rid of them

DH made a complaint. They were very conciliatory, but told him that unfortunately the two officers concerned were both off on long term sick. Which was convenient.

I've complained directly to the Police and crime commissioner, as I wasn't getting anywhere with the police directly. I got a call within 72 from the Chief Constable and they had to report themselves to the IOPC, and my complaint was upheld. It was a pretty serious issue tho and multiple other agencies were involved.
