Me & some of my friends around the 36/37 years mark have noticed our cycles changing, sometimes only 2/3 weeks between periods…feeling more moody than normal, when it was just me I was aware of I thought it may be stress but as we shared this between us it made me wonder if it’s more likely the beginnings of our cycle changing.

AIBU are we too young to be experiencing these changes?

any experience welcome TIA x

Peri menopause seems to be very ' in' at the moment. Feeling irritable? Warm? Didn't sleep very well last night?. Must be Peri menopause. It's the new anxiety.

I'm almost 46 and have no idea what "peri" is supposed to be.

48 is not early menopause. It's normal menopause.

You said the other poster was lucky to get it over n done with early. I was referring to that, not you. I know 48 is pretty standard.

Well, I would recommended reading up on it as if you don’t look after your body during peri, it can cause all sorts of awful problems later in life.

Yes, Pistachio did but you were correcting a mistake I didn't make.

I haven’t but my friend is in full blown perimenopause with hot flushes and all sorts and she is 36. Everyone’s different . Moodiness can be caused by a variety of things

whiteroseredrose · 02/02/2026 11:49

No. My DM went through the menopause at 36. I was about 42.

Twattergy · 02/02/2026 12:04

I wouldn't say that cycle change alone = perimenopause. My cycle got shorter from 39 ish. Peri didn't kick in (i.e. noticeable symptoms) until 45. Its worth looking at apps like Balance to see full lists of peri symptoms. Cycle changes alone can happen for many years before any other changes. From my personal experience, I would not say my peri started when my cycle changed.
