To have doubts about ttc

We have one DS6 and we've been trying for a while for another. Thing is I'm reaching 40 and suddenly having doubts as I can feel myself getting less energetic, taking longer to recover from illnesses etc.
Do we want to be parents to a 10 year old at 50? Grandparents at 80?
Also the age gap our kids would have is widening.
At the same time it is what it is and we can't rewind a decade and start again earlier!

Edited to add...I think I'm feeling particularly frail and tired as am recovering from a miscarriage. Perhaps I should wait a couple of weeks to see if I still feel the same way.

It's hard to say as you'll get a lot of anecdotes and it is very personal. I personally had a cut off of 38 and no more than a 3 year gap (the latter informed the former) but I know many happy people who have dc in their early forties and/or big gaps - 17 years in one case (same parents/ not a blended family).

However, if in doubt I wouldn't do it because the "you never regret the child you have" trope is BS and I know 3 people who do regret it - not that they don't love the child that was born but that it made life harder in various ways that they didnt anticipate and wouldn't have signed up for.
