Chicken left out for 2 hours

YourJadeSquid · 31/01/2026 14:40

Darn it, forgot to put the frozen and fridge food away.

600g of chicken breast with some frozen sprouts and cauliflower. Also some hummus, left in a bag for 2 hours in 19 degree kitchen

Would you risk it?

Was the chicken chilled or frozen? I’d probably just cook and eat it today.

marcyhermit · 31/01/2026 14:41

Yes.

pizzaHeart · 31/01/2026 14:41

Frozen or chilled?

IfyouStealMySunshine · 31/01/2026 14:43

Be absolutely fine if chilled but if frozen would pop in the fridge and Cook today or tomorrow

KittyEckersley · 31/01/2026 14:43

It’ll all be fine. Although if it was frozen chicken, I would defrost fully and eat today or tomorrow. Frozen sprouts I wouldn’t bother and would put straight in the freezer.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 31/01/2026 14:43

Yes. I’d eat it not probs. It can take me that long to get home from big shop sometimes.

YourJadeSquid · 31/01/2026 14:43

Yes it's fresh. Frozen would be cooking tonight

Of course I would. It will be fine.

ExtraOnions · 31/01/2026 14:55

Why do grown adults need to run to forums for the most basic of decisions? How can you get to an age where you have your own home etc, yet can’t decide whether to eat Chicken or not? It baffles me

puppyparent · 31/01/2026 14:58

This is an odd question to me. I often leave fresh meat out for a couple of hours before cooking to marinate or come up to room temp. Have never had a problem?

I agree people are getting worse.

I came from thread that are ok with being naked around kids but not ok if kid's see it in films.

Dollymylove · 31/01/2026 15:26

It'll be fine. As long as its cooked thoroughly

HisNotHes · 31/01/2026 15:33

Not clear what the yabu/Yanbu voting options are but personally I’d happily eat it all.

Dymaxion · 31/01/2026 15:45

I also leave a fresh whole chicken out for a few hours to reach room temp, as long as its cooked properly, I doubt you would have any problems.

CraftyGin · 31/01/2026 15:47

I never put chicken away (we shop and eat on the same day). I like it to be room temperature before cooking.

Alltheyellowbirds · 31/01/2026 15:50

It’s fine as long as it wasn’t on a radiator or something. It’s two hours. If you’d killed your own chicken it would take you longer than that to pluck it.

Dahlia1234 · 31/01/2026 15:52

I'd risk it if fresh but not frozen

SoloMumJustMuddlingThrough · 31/01/2026 16:42

It's fine. (I'm a chef)
