My mum has received a cheque for US $1200 from an old share thing she inherited when a relative died. Basically, the company has wound up. They've issued it, and she's finding it virtually impossible to cash. The people issuing it have said they can't wire transfer or reissue. 😬

My mum is happy to pass the money to charity, but .... how?

Google suggests you can cash a foreign currency cheque through your normal account but to expect a delay and charges.

You can pay foreign cheques into your account it just takes time and some fees. You need to go to a branch

At hsbc, I can pay in foreign cheques for a fee. Ask in person in a branch.

Following as we’re having the same issue with trying to cash a foreign cheque received from Amazon.

I opened a wise.com account on her behalf on the advice of a friend who has an American husband who works in banking, but they won't accept cheques either.

It's very frustrating! I have asked them (on her behalf) to reissue in his name or send via wire to wise, but they obviously don't give a shit as they're not legally obligated.

As I said, she is happy to give to a charity, but I don't know how.

You can ask Amazon to issue it via PayPal. That's what I've done
