I’m sure I’ll be told to get a life so feel free to scroll on by.

I follow a few minor influencers on Instagram. I know it’s all mainly advertising but I do enjoy a bit of mindless scrolling.

One of the influencers claims to be a single parent that fled DV, yet she’s got her children and her location/life all over Instagram. She’s also just moved a new boyfriend in who’s now bathing and putting her children to bed.

Then a few days ago she was begging people to click a link. She said that she was penniless and didn’t have enough money to get through until the end of the month. She said she gets 10p per click and that she had no money for food.

She’s got almost 100000 followers so if they all click that’s a LOT of money.

Two days later the was filming herself out clothes and tat shopping and videoing her ‘haul’ that she’d bought.

I know people will say don’t follow these people, and yes you are absolutely right.

But aibu to think it’s all going too far in terms of influencers exploiting their children and lying grifting and pushing tat onto people.

Well, you are part of the problem as you are following these people. What is it that you feel this person brings to your life? Why fo you follow people who are exploiting their children.

LadyKenya · 29/01/2026 12:45

Oh well, are you going to continue following her?

Mumstheword1983 · 29/01/2026 13:03

It all depends what they do online and what sponsors/adverts they have but with 100,000 followers you would make a salary from it from what I've seen shared as examples.

Booksandsea · 29/01/2026 13:03

I follow her too OP; I was thinking the same as you, I find it a bit fascinating tbh. Kind of like a car crash, can’t look away!

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 29/01/2026 13:05

Do unfollow her.

Having followers is what encourages marketing idiots to send her 5k of free kitchen appliances or give her a free holiday to X.

She sounds an absolute troll and I feel sorry for the kids...

Vote with your feet.

It is isn’t it.

I do only follow about 30 people on insta, I tend to follow some that spark my interest but if I learn after a few weeks that it’s a load of shite I unfollow.

Same here

Grifters gonna grift. I saw someone doing a GoFundMe to buy a bigger house 🤷‍♀️

Icecreamandcoffee · 29/01/2026 14:02

She's grifting and using her kids. If people follow and interact with it it encourages that behavior. If you don't like it unfollow and don't interact. It's the only way to stop it.

billandtedsexcellentadventure · 29/01/2026 14:17

I think I follow her. Didn’t see anything about her having no money though? But did wonder about the dv and location etc.

Loveheart1001 · 29/01/2026 14:46

Not sure if you’re supposed to to say on here. If the three gets deleted oh well.

It’s councilhousemama

She definitely said on her stories a few days ago that she had no money until the end of the month for food. Then literally a couple of days later posting about her ‘haul’. I could not get over the audacity.

I do follow her!! Thought it was her but I haven’t seen anything mentioning giving money or clicks.
