To have done absolutely nothing today???

As the title suggests. I’ve done nothing today. No cooking, no cleaning, not even taken the DC (10 and 12) anywhere. We played a couple of board games this morning, but otherwise, we’ve watched two movies and just really chilled out. I’ve been struggling with anemia, and just felt like my body wouldn’t do its thing today, but I now feel pretty guilty for giving them such a rubbish Saturday. I didn’t even cook dinner, just ordered us a takeaway.

I am now awake, probably because I’ve not been active enough today to go to bed and just fall asleep.

Was It unreasonable of me to have a day like this. Am I a bad parent for not prioritising the kids more?

You could rephrase this as ‘Today, despite feeling unwell, I played board games and watched films with my children, and then ordered us a takeaway.’

Nah. Its good to be relaxed sometimes. The sad thing is that you have kids, this means you have to be actiev everyday until they grow older. My dream is to do nothing around the house. I havent lived this dream yet though sadly.

Do not worry.

You are unwell and recovering. Your kids were entertained and fed and still alive at bedtime.

Give yourself permission to take some down time when required.

I would absolutely reframe this. We are now (or society is) in a mindset where we all have to be doing something/ going to an event/ hugely engaging with our DCs. Yes I agree that it’s nice to do these things.

However looking back, the things that bonded us as a family the most were not the holidays/ museum trips/ parties etc. It was the routine / mundane days where we were all in the house together. Watching a film together in pyjamas- no one needing to be anywhere. Sometimes it’s doing the ‘nothing’ rather than something with them and recognising that school life is quite stressful so hanging out at home is exactly what they need sometimes.

Sounds like a lovely day to me! Hope you feel better soon 💐
