It’s pay day today. I have transferred my portion of the bills to the joint. I have put a small amount into my savings. I have 1840 left. I want to save 1k of this! What do you think? Do I lover it into savings now…or do I leave it there. It’s easily accessible even in savings and I’ll be annoyed with myself if I have to move it back! Wwyd? Am I being realistic? Appreciate this is a first world problem. Just looking for opinions.

I really do, I just worry that I’ll fail I suppose.
i also hate seeing so little in my current account. It makes me panic. If I transfer 1k out and leave the 840 then I get anxious that there’s not enough, it’s like a weird cycle. 1840 = loads and I can be relaxed, 840= tight and I’m watching it and then it goes lower do i transfer money back and then feel like I’ve failed 😞

I do already have savings in two accounts (that I want to top up!) so I suppose a part of me feels secure that i can spend BUT I know I should save a portion too!

This is why you really need to budget
So you know exactly what outgoings you have and how much is available for spending
The biggest issue people have is just winging it and hoping it covers what they spend.
Take control and budget
Imho you have plenty of spending money at £840

I dont spend anything like that -its £210 a week!

You could go through your statements?
This was a gamechanger for me-mostly it was bits and bobs and top up shops that I didnt really need!

Have you noticed you spend more on the kids than your DP ? I do, you say things that get spent on the kids.

it’s a common issue with me and also my friends that activities and clothes etc for the kids come out of my bank account all the time and I’m saving less. I have my DP’s bank card and he always tells me to just use it but I never do, it’s an issue I need to tackle

Well I do but that’s because he is not their dad…but their dad will give me 50% of any expenses back when asked. I don’t get maintenance.

Make a budget and stick to it. Make conscious decisions to reduce spending on coffees, lunches etc by making at home (you can burn through money on these and once you make the switch you think why did I waste so much on things that really didn’t enhance my life)
