We have been looking in to going to forest holidays.
We can only go the weekend and you can only book Friday -Monday.
We can’t get the Monday off so will have to only stay the Friday -Sunday.
Check out is normally 10am Monday.
We spoke to someone today and they daid it will be the same price Fri-Sunday as Friday -Monday as they don’t offer 2 nights -which is absolutely fine but they have said we have to check out by 10am Sunday.
So I’m confused if we have paid till 10 am Monday ..why can’t we stay till 3pm Sunday and leave ?
Aibu to think this is silly ?

YANBU. If you still want to go despite this, you might as well book Friday - Monday and check out at your leisure on Sunday.

junebirthdaygirl · 21/01/2026 18:31

Just book until Monday morning and then leave on Sunday evening whenever it suits. I find now in hotels yhey dont need to see you at departure as they have your card details so if you added anything to bill they are not out of pocket. Just leave keys in room and go. They lose nothing and cleaners can start in your place first thing Monday morning.

5128gap · 21/01/2026 18:32

Book Friday to Monday and you are entitled to stay there until Monday morning. No need to tell them you will be leaving Sunday. Just leave when you choose. They can't stop you!

devildeepbluesea · 21/01/2026 18:32

How exactly will they stop you just leaving? I’d be dropping off the key on Sunday pm and saying I had an emergency.

inkyspells · 21/01/2026 18:33

Yeah I was thinking this too
Ideally we would like to stay till say 5pm then drive home
Just to enjoy the hot tub etc
Would we get in trouble ?

You can! It's not a prison. Check out any time you like.

jbm16 · 21/01/2026 18:34

It's just so they charge for 7 nights a week, and not stuck with a single night they can't book out. You can obviously check out whenever you want, but you will have to pay for Sunday.

No - they can't keep you prisoner there 😁

Don’t tell them you’re leaving on Sunday.

@jbm16no they said we have to pay for the Monday but if we are leaving on Sunday will have to leave 10am Sunday (not anytime we want )

Abs no need to lie. Just leave. Someone on practically every MN thread advocates lying.

I don't see how they can possibly enforce that.

However, if they're being awkward, go somewhere else. All this doesn't bode well for your likely experience there.

SilverPink · 21/01/2026 18:40

We often stay in a forest holidays location (going again in a few weeks). We book Friday to Monday but always leave around 4 Sunday afternoon, no one bats an eyelid.

Surely you have misunderstood them? I can't see how they can enforce that, there could be loads of reasons why people have to curtail their stay and leave early.

NoKnit · 21/01/2026 18:45

Then you just tell them ok you'll stay until Monday. Then on Sunday afternoon habe an emergency with your cat or something and decide to leave early.

inkyspells · 21/01/2026 18:49

I wonder if the advisor just got confused ,we will just leave around tea time

For what you have understood, YANBU. However I feel like there is a bit of a communication fail as it sound like whoever you spoke to literally gave you the company policy "check-out by 10". I have never stayed at this place so can't be 100% but most places, you drop a key at reception night or day.

I will be honest though, I have never thought to ask the question you asked, I just assumed I can leave when I want.

5128gap · 21/01/2026 18:57

Stop looking at it as leaving later than you're allowed on Sunday, and think of it as leaving earlier than you have to, which would be Monday. Then you'll see that you can't possibly get into trouble for leaving a holiday early.

SpanThatWorld · 21/01/2026 18:57

We did the opposite once. Booked Duinrell (holiday park in the NL) knowing that we wouldn't be there Friday evening as we would be on a ferry. Turned up at about 9am on the Saturday and there was a bit of confusion but we'd paid for the Lodge so it was all ok

Mulledjuice · 21/01/2026 18:59

Is it like Center Parcs where car use is supposed to be restricted?

I agree just book the standard and leave when you want.

That can't be right. My workplace has a key drop box for when reception is closed. You can leave whenever you want as long as it's no later than 10am on Monday. Of course, you pay for the whole stay. We just ask people to be mindful of noise levels if they are up and about at unsocial hours.

Maybe you spoke to someone new or something...

Seawolves · 21/01/2026 19:04

I have stayed at our local Forest Holidays, we book Fri to Mon but leave late on Sunday, we just drop the key off and go no-one has ever batted an eyelid!

That's also fine to arrive a day late but earlier than normal check in time. Like you said, it's yours for the whole duration. Maybe give the reception team a heads up that you're arriving early the next morning so that they know not to chase you for non arrival.
Reception won't be manned overnight so they need to know if you need the key leaving out for you overnight.
