I am coming up to being 3 days late on my period. Me and my partner have been baby dancing all month my last period was 22nd December. From 29th December I have only not had unprotected sex on 4 days of this month. Is there still possibility I could still be pregnant? I tested Saturday morning I swear I saw the faintest of lines & yesterday evening it was negative. I am only using cheap tests maybe worth investing in a better brand? Not a stressful month either so I can’t see any other explanation for my late period. Has anyone ever experienced this & been pregnant but found out later on?

Also to add. I have been experiencing cramps back ache belly ache headaches all week, I don’t usually have anything until my period is here.

Try testing again in a week. I know it is exciting but honestly waiting is all you need to do

Also test first thing in the morning, not the evening would be my advice.

Honestly, you'll drive yourself mad testing (I speak from experience). Wait a few days and test again, with your first wee of the morning. Anything else won't be concentrated enough at this point to get you a result. Trust me, the wait between getting your positive test and then anything actually happening feels like 3 years, so the longer you leave it, the better!

Do you track ovulation? There’s no way to know if your period is truly late unless you do. A period truly 2 days late due to pregnancy would show up positive by now.

GoldenRosebee · 19/01/2026 16:12

why don't you ask advice from gyno or a doctor?

I agree with this- maybe just a late ovulation
mine varies from day 10 to day 14 so my period would appear late but I know I’ve ovulated later if that makes sense.
also I think only sex on day 4 is possible but unlikely

I have spoken to a doctor today & was told to wait 3/4 weeks before they would even consider sending me for any other tests. I came on here asking for advice & experiences from other women as this would be my first child so I am unsure & not got much help from doctors.

I have always tracked my periods with an app & never been more than a day late so really confused unless I ovulated later than expected I could still be early?

Also with late ovulation I could have been caught as iv only not had intercourse 4 days this month. That being said could I still show negative & be pregnant?

Apps can only give you a ballpark. The only method to pinpoint ovulation accurately is to track your basal body temperature.

If you were truly 2 days late and that was due to pregnancy, you would have a positive test. That’s not to say you are not pregnant, but you aren’t late due to pregnancy.

The problem with conception is it's different for everyone. Someone telling you they didn't get their positive test until they were 5 days late doesn't mean that will be the case for you (and might just be giving you false hope). I do understand how much you want to get that hope, but trust me, it just makes it worse if things don't work out this cycle. I know it's hard to do, but try and relax and avoid testing too often.

I haven’t been obsessed or stressed with testing I have only taken 2 tests since I have “missed” my period. I am taking each day as it comes I haven’t exactly been trying to get pregnant so it’s just one of them things I guess x

If you have only not had unprotected sex on 4 days of the last month (so had unprotected sex on all of the others) then, realistically, you are trying to get pregnant.

That being said, it can take a few days longer for the hormones to be strong enough to read, especially if a cheap test. And any line, including a faint one, is a positive
