I know this isn't an AIBU, however I'm a bit stumped, I fractured the base of my 5th Metatarsal in November 24. It never healed, even after 6 months, decided to have surgery to plate it together, surgery was supposed to be within 3 months of that decision, its now almost 9 months on and I've just been contacted for my pre-op checks. Do I go ahead with the surgery and be off my feet/unable to drive for 6 weeks, or just carry on. I'm afraid leaving it not healed will cause me problems later in life, not sure if I'm worrying about nothing. Any info especially from Orthopaedic surgeons very welcome. I know this is a long shot but it's near impossible trying to speak to anyone at the hospital atm. Thanks for reading if you got this far!

Not an orthopaedic surgeon, but I am someone who has had a lot of surgery. Speak to your surgeon! You will be called in for a consultation ahead of the surgery. They won’t just book you in without assessing you. They need to go over the risks of the surgery and you need to sign the consent, so you will see the consultant in advance. Ask them. Personally, if it’s being offered, I’d do it rather than fall off the waiting list never to return, but they’ll be able to look at your individual case and advise on the cost/benefit.
