Yesterday went to a farm that has a cafe with a long window along the whole wall where you can see animals etc we were seated by the waitress at a table along this window. Food arrived and started eating when a mum come and placed her toddler on the table within inches from my food/ plate in muddy wellies. I asked her is could hold him or what till I was not eating as muddy wellies was not hygienic and I was eating - she replied he wanted to see the amimals which understand and have no issues with him but stated could she hold him so his dirty shoes were not near my food she said I was selfish and entitled and stomped off saying to her son that the nasty lady said he can not look at the animals.
was i being unreasonable or her?

She put her child in muddy wellies on your table?!

Its rude and disgusting, totally inconsiderate.

DilemmaDelilah · 18/01/2026 10:43

She was, of course

Pancakeflipper · 18/01/2026 10:44

I think you were totally right to ask her to move.

They could have tried another 'viewing point'. But sounds like she could be a mother whose child's wants/needs supercede anyone and anything else.

Thank you - it’s just one of those things I have replayed in my head

On the table!!!!!😮

Yes - I initially thought the OP meant “on” the table as in “at” the table but standing on the actual table?!?!?! WTF? 😡🤮

Clarinet1 · 18/01/2026 11:13

Also, another option would have been to take the child’s wellies off.

HP200 · 18/01/2026 11:13

it was a high bar type table across the window so was stood actually on it inches from my food

It's just another endemic of the I'm entitled brigade. It isn't normal behavior at all.

First of all, you'd ask. She clearly has no morals or good upbringing because who does that to someone?

HP200 · 18/01/2026 11:14

Taking the child’s wellies off would have been better but I didn’t really think of that was just shocked she stood him smack bam next to my plate. As I said I had no problem with him looking at the animals I have had a toddler have tried to entertain while waiting for food and is she has stood and held him that would of been fine
