Aibu but has this winter made you realise how much you don't mind summer I thought I was a winter/Kendal northern girl through and through but not anymore !!! The cold is soo bitter making my head so cold I'm getting a headache and I've have flu or a terrible cold for about 3 weeks. I want light evenings back I miss the sun soo much now. There's nothing cosy anymore just grey and dark and endless boringness.

This winter is not awful. Well no worse than any other. In fact, in the run up to and around Christmas, it was warmer than most.

We wouldn't appreciate the seasons if it was the same all year.

Nimblethimble · 15/01/2026 22:50

SE England - it's been more wet than cold!

YANBU. I've been thinking the same. From just after Christmas we've had so many icy, cold days. Gales in some parts of the country and tonight fog where I am. All the horrible weather has been thrown here!

I do feel sorry for those who have been without electricity, that must be just awful.

Yes I was getting down over it the other day. To think sometimes winters get called 'mild' definitely not the case this year.

Morepositivemum · 15/01/2026 23:08

I agree, although yes it was milder later last year January has been freezing

smallglassbottle · 15/01/2026 23:14

Yes it's cold and miserable, but it's winter, this is how it is. I'm heat intolerant and the heat makes me ill, so I'm glad to have a break from it.

Im In the north and I wouldn’t say it’s the worst winter no. Perhaps you’ve just moved seasons internally and you don’t love winter anymore. It happens

Worralorra · 16/01/2026 08:58

I voted YABU because the weather is normal for this time of year.

However, I do have sympathy for you - being unwell is awful, and especially if it is for a long time (1 week is bad enough, but 3?). I hope you feel better soon and look forward to some sunshine soon - it’s here in the South of London today!

Yes! When I was younger I loved autumn and winter, I felt cosy and liked the dark but as I’ve gotten older, I really like the spring and summer.

I can not wait to be able to put my washing on the line and not wake up in the dark.
