CHS (Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome)

Does anyone have any experience? My ds is 19 years old and has smoked cannabis since the age of 15. We have tried everything to help him stop and I have spent thousands of pounds ( that I don’t have) on counselling but nothing has helped. Recently he has bouts of vomiting where he will be ill for 24 hours. It doesn’t seem to be a bug. I have now read about CHS (Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome). Yesterday he started vomiting again and has stomach pains. He has no appetite unless he has just smoked weed and has become so thin. He won’t let me call our GP today and when I have suggested the cause could be his smoking he won’t accept it. I’m going out of my mind with worry.

Could be a whitey. But they pass.

My starting point would be what exactly is he smoking ? I would be amazed if street bought weed wasn't adulterated with something.

I think you’re going to have to explain that a bit more to the OP. Most people won’t have a clue what a ‘Whitey’ even is.

Like what? Weed is just a plant. I mean if it was fentanyl or something then he'd probably be dead.

Street weed is invariably cut with cheaper substances. It's what happens when you are happy to let criminals run the industry.

If you want to stay safe, dump the dealer.

I suspect you won't get much help on here OP due to the demographic.

It absolutely does sound like CHS and ultimately the only way to stop, is to stop smoking. It doesn't sound like he is willing to do this though. However if he carries on he will do his body damage from chronic dehydration.

For short term relief, some people find HOT (like scorching hot) showers help.

Google CHS Reddit and you will see a lot more info. And if he can admit he has an addiction the subreddit r/quittingcannabis is very helpful, but this all needs to come from him (therapy will help). He needs to be willing to change and I suspect he is in really deep and not wanting to admit there is a problem.

Unfortunately if it is the weed that's causing it the only cure is to stop and if he's not willing to engage in help with that there's sadly not much more you can do at the moment. It's really hard to stop without support. So sorry you're going through this..good advice from @Boogiemam

Yeah I've heard of brix weed. They spray it with shit to make it look more crystal and heavier. That was a big thing about 20 years back.

I guess I'm lucky in that I've not seen any dodgy stuff for a long time. Not that I'm a massive expert. I do know a little about it though.

The only way to be sure is to grow your own.

Yeah you're not wrong.

If it's CHS, then it's not the adulterants, it's the active ingredient THC, so it doesn't matter if it's home grown or street bought.
