Given the rarity of circumcision (other than for religious reasons) in the UK*, I can't say I am bothered one way or the other.

[*Out of the 30 boys in my class at a single sex grammar school in the 80s only 3 were circumcised and two of those were Jewish.]

HermioneWeasley · 11/01/2026 15:18

Yes, it’s time that male circumcision other than for medical reasons, was banned.

How on earth did you know how many of your class were circumcised? 😬

And why should religion mean babies are allowed to be mutilated? If I cut my child’s fingertip off because the Goddess Hera needed a sacrifice… is that ok?

He was at a boy's school, all sorts go on in boy's schools.

In my experience it’s definitely not rare and it’s increasing. And yes, if you’ve ever seen one you would not want it done in the community.

I hope this goes through. No child should die because of amateur surgery done in an un sterile community setting without their consent.

Greenmouldycheese · 11/01/2026 22:28

It is child abuse unless done for medical reasons.

Snugglemonkey · 11/01/2026 22:57

I disagree with the word "potential" in there. Unless for medical reasons, any cutting off bits of children is abusive.

Yes. I refused to get my son done to the fury of my ex husbands family. I considered it child abuse and told them as much. No one was harming my bloody child religion or no religion

You stared at and memorised the penises of 30 boys from 40+ years ago?
