To make up AIBUs in my head but never post them

Most days I'll craft a post in the old noggin, but don't bother actually typing it out.

Anyone else?

OP posts:
Playingvideogames · 08/01/2026 21:02

I do write posts sometimes then delete them, as I read them back and think they add nothing to the thread or would be plain boring to someone else. I can’t say I dream up fake AIBUs though.

HoLeeFuk · 08/01/2026 21:03

I do that but I've been here long enough to know exactly how the thread would go!

I don't think the OP meant fake scenarios, but mentally writing an AIBU for a real scenario. That's the case for me anyway.

WalterMittysPuppet · 08/01/2026 21:11

I mentally write AIBUs while I'm walking the dog or driving. I don't post them because I also mentally run through what the responses would be...I feel bad enough already if I'm drafting posts, I don't need an MN kicking on top of despising/second guessing myself.

AliceAbsolum · 08/01/2026 21:22

Yes not fake posts but things that have happened in the day.

OP posts:
modernfairies · 08/01/2026 21:23

Yep I do that.

Generally I work out whether I’d get a kicking or a whole load of LTBs based on a single argument so I decide not to post, though sometimes I do tell DH I was right based on what I think MN would have said.

PhantomAfternoonTea · 08/01/2026 21:24

Oh I do this too!

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 08/01/2026 21:25

Yeah, the other day I thought up 'AIBU to want spoilers?' after starting to watch Stranger Things and being terrified. I can't cope with much tension and knowing what happens makes me able to cope 😂

Anyone reading's welcome to give an opinion...

AnneLovesGilbert · 08/01/2026 21:26

Not often but I resolved a major dilemma that was bugging me for ages and I imagined what I’d say to someone posting about the same thing and found sense.

Notdanishsusan · 08/01/2026 22:03

All the time. I’d never post them because I don’t need the advice. But more in a ‘oh there could be a mumsnet thread here that would go….

YANBU. I sometimes look up and read plot synopses if I'm getting antsy. It doesn't lessen my enjoyment.

One of my friends spoils EVERYTHING she watches because it makes it much more enjoyable for her.

WonsWoo · 08/01/2026 22:06

All the time. Then I think about the pile on that would ensue about how petty I’m being so give my head a good old Mumsnet wobble!

I always look ahead, too stressful not to!

PipeOfPringles · 08/01/2026 22:14

Mine are more wanting to ask the MN hive mind about very boring , basic things which I can never actually bring myself to start a thread about. Like how do you get the last bits of Mitchum stick deodorant out, as there's loads left in the container?

This is going to be my go-to problem solving method from now on.

XenoBitch · 08/01/2026 22:18

I do the same. But I very rarely start a thread as I know how brutal some people on here can be.

DramaAlpaca · 08/01/2026 22:37

All the time! But I never post them as I don't fancy experiencing an MN pile-on, as that seems to happen far too often these days.

TeaAndTrumpet · 08/01/2026 23:38

I do - or rather did. I now often ask ChatGPT…

RamsaySnowsSausage · 08/01/2026 23:52

Yes, often, but I tie myself in knots thinking how to word it to avoid misunderstandings, derailments and undeserved (or deserved!) criticism.

Sometimes I just post it anyway.

Many years ago in the trenches with a newborn and a cheating H I posted more and learned more but massively cut down on posting after I made a post being upset that my ex in-laws had laughed at my 'grammer' in a thank you note I had sent for a passive aggressive present they had sent after I birthed their abusive and cheating son's child (alone and nearly dying in the process) and received lots of replies and a few DMs explaining that it was spelled 'grammar', not grammer. I could not believe the creativeness posters had in missing the point just to be mean so am proactively defensive now!

TheFireHorse · 08/01/2026 23:55

I do this all the time!!!

Back 20 years ago I would have just posted them. But now .... nah! Not worth grief and the trolls!!

Although talking of trolls, I really want to post an AIBU now to ask why people troll! After seeing the P troll thread was deleted!

I had even posted on the thread before it was deleted to say that I was surprised the post hadn't been deleted already! Then POW it was gone!

What do they get out of it? The trolls I mean? Not the deletion!

Ps this isn't a TAAT.

HollyBerri · 09/01/2026 05:22

I do this all the time - its a good way to sort out problems in your head. Before mumsnet I used to imagine I was writing a letter to an Agony Aunt so have always done this.
i go through imaginary responses too but would never really post due to trolls and pile ons.

SandwichMakerHater · 09/01/2026 06:22

I don't do that but I do constantly find myself thinking of 3 obcure answers to things (eg shipping forecast areas or words of more than 6 letters in a specific song) just in case I ever find myself in the Pointless final.

I also still try to think of 3 songs by one artist in case I am ever on Popmaster.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 09/01/2026 06:34

I only start threads on here about musings I have, never anything really personal because god forbid you show vulnerability to the truly horrendous creatures that lurk around this site.

I was going to start a thread about how much I despise shows or films where you have to read text messages on the screen, that are a massive part of the plot, instead of someone reading them out to me - my eyesight is bad enough reading my own fcking messages. Then I envisioned a load of first world problem type of responses and so I decided against it 😁.

Iheartguacamole · 09/01/2026 07:03

Yeah I’ve thought of several but haven’t posted because of the way threads go sometimes. Like, weirdly nasty for no reason

Maryberrysbouffant · 09/01/2026 07:08

I do too, I’d probably post more often if MN didn’t share posts on fb and Twitter because none of my friends use MN.
