To wonder why the mainstream media is not reporting the massive anti-regime protests in Iran?

There are currently massive anti-Islamic regime protests all over Iran by civilians, many of them chanting for the return of the Shah.

These protestors are incredibly brave, many of them have been killed, shot or taken away by the regime police.

The protests, some of them hundreds of thousands strong, all over Iran have been widely reported and documented by exiled Iranians on places like Twitter/X but the mainstream news has been strangely silent, especially the BBC that would normally have non-stop, headline reporting if this was about happening anywhere else.

AIBU to hope the regime falls and that the Iranians finally taste freedom after 47 years (and that the BBC should be reporting on this)?

@SpikeGilesSandwich but in islam it's said you are born islamic so surely it is a race ?

It means in Islam everyone is Muslim, they are just following the wrong path to God. It doesn't matter what race you are. That's why if you convert to Islam under Islam you have 'reverted' because you were born Muslim but went along the 'wrong' path (Christianity, Judaism. atheism etc) and now you've 'reverted' to the correct path.

The BBC are covering it 🤷🏼‍♀️

They are

Just because you don't read or watch msm doesn't mean they aren't covering it.

Emeraldforest · 09/01/2026 18:05

It's on the BBC news at 6 right now, its the headline news.

The Geo-Political situation is crazy. Dumbing down the situation in Iran speaks to a situation about to implode.

nigelisalier · 09/01/2026 18:14

Stopped watching BBC news. Waste of time.

Well this would at least explain why you’ll not have seen any of their coverage of what’s happening in Iran.

About time after a week long country wide protest!

I hope those brave Iranians succeed in overthrowing that brutal regime.

I am fully aware of what is happening in Iran. What ever gave you that idea? Think you need to be more careful about who you are quoting.

The PP didn't say you didn't know what was happening in Iran. They said you'd not seen BBC's coverage of it. Read the post again.

I prefer Channel 4 news. You seem to get a more in depth take on the matter.

nigelisalier · 09/01/2026 19:09

I watched the BBC at lunch. Sound bites.

Thank you to the other poster who already pointed out your comprehension skills are somewhat lacking, I’ll quote who I like thanks, welcome to the internet.

Fear based on sweeping generalisations is exactly what prejudice looks like, regardless of how you try to rebrand it. This comment shows a lack of understanding of both Islam and basic reasoning

But the revolution has been ongoing for a week at least and not covered by MSM until yesterday in the main. There was a demo outside the Iranian Embassy in London last Saturday which wasn't covered by news outlets. HTH.

I am not sure you can call it a revolution. I think that that is what the likes of Lindsey Graham is asking for. One confusing thing is the chants in favour of Pahlavi. Have a look at what Pahlavi's father used to say about the US, before the Shah ruled Iran. I struggle to understand why the US would be pushing him forward and also struggle to understand why Iranians would be begging for Pahlavi if this were a genuine home grown genuine revolution. Just doesn't make sense. Also the economic crisis has been caused by US sanctions according to many people, so real iranians are unlikely to be genuinely begging the US to come and save them if the US has been the cause of it? I mean, even those who are at heart opposition are unlikely to want to be ruled by US by proxy.

It is all a bit too much like Venezuela-gate.

In relation to coverage, Iran has shut down media to try to stop outside forces causing trouble inside Iran, and unfortunately that means that we aren't getting anything genuine from inside Iran, any media coverage we are seeing now does need to be interpreted in this light.

This too

nigelisalier · 09/01/2026 21:36

I suspect that it’s Mossad and the CIA who are encouraging the recall of Pahlavi. I am not sure that is what the Iranian people really want.
They would prefer a democracy rather than a theocracy.

nigelisalier · 09/01/2026 21:41

Are the Iranian people really stupid enough to want to be oppressed by the Shin Bet/Gestapo/Savak again?

Kendodd · 09/01/2026 21:55

You are being so, so unreasonable it's been all over the news. How can you not have seen it?
