Will testosterone for libido make me hairy??

ifyourheart · 06/01/2026 22:09

I’ve been prescribed testosterone (Tostran 2%) for low libido (in conjunction with Evoral patches / HRT)
I am a bit hesitant to start as I really don’t want to replace one problem with another!! I don’t want to be hairy!! Has anyone had any experience of this? Please share! Thank you x

Nope not at all

olderbutwiser · 06/01/2026 22:15

Not hairy; or at least no more hairy than I was or my friends are.

BrunchBarBandit · 06/01/2026 22:18

The aim with testosterone is to stay within the female range so regular blood tests can check this. It shouldn’t make you hairier if you are within the range

PinotPony · 06/01/2026 22:18

Not hairy but my new testicles are getting massive! 🤣

Catza · 06/01/2026 22:45

Probably more likely to do the opposite of that.

ifyourheart · 06/01/2026 22:59

thank you for the reassurance!!

@Catzahow so? Do you mean it is likely to make me less hairy?

Yes. One of the common side effects of testosterone is hair thinning.

What’s your source for this please?

The British Menopause Society guidance says that this is a RARE side effect for women:

Oneborneverydecade · 07/01/2026 12:12

I haven't noticed any more unwanted hair than usual.
I thought hair thinning was a risk for men on testosterone

You win!

MylipstickiscalledHugMe · 07/01/2026 12:43

Yes, I apply it as a gel on my thigh and gradually darker hairs have grown there. No other effect on hair anywhere. Ideally you apply it in a different place each day and this doesn't happen, but I'm lazy and put it on my left thigh at bedtime with oestrogen gel going on my right.

It grows slowly and I just shave it off every few weeks when it's noticable.

LittleJustice · 07/01/2026 12:47

People who have tried it does it help with libido and does it also help with orgasm? I know it's a strange question but everything is feeling less sensitive down there as I age.

MylipstickiscalledHugMe · 07/01/2026 12:50

It didn't make any difference to that for me, but I was taking it for low energy instead. My energy returned to normal and I'm very happy with that. It's had no other noticable effects on anything else.

I recommend all middle aged and older women with low energy to get their testosterone checked.

Edit: libido and everything like that was normal before and has stayed normal.

FangFan · 07/01/2026 12:51

I have noticed a bit more hair on my thighs where I apply the gel.
I also have a bit more unwanted facial hair but i think that’s probably more likely just peri and/or minoxidil use. Could be all three I suppose. It’s a bit depressing that it now takes me longer to pluck my lip than my eyebrows nowadays!

It made the hair at the application site (thighs) thicker and darker (I was fair to start with) but didn’t make me hairier or less hairy overall.

I'd be interested to know this too.

Yes, it did for me.

HangingOver · 07/01/2026 13:31

How old do you have to be to take this does anyone know?

Yes, that's why I requested it. I'm not back to pre peri sex drive but I no longer have dry fanny and I am experiencing more sexual interest than I was.

No specific age, it's part of HRT

Exactly. You need to be on HRT before a doctor will even consider prescribing testosterone.
