Feels like something under left rib and burping a lot

I am going to get a GP appointment about this but I’m wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar to this.

I have an occasionally pain (sharp or dull) but a fairly consistent feeling of something being trapped under left side of rib cage. Sometimes right too. Maybe a feeling of fullness or pressure, not keys painful just odd. I have a lot of bubbles in that area that I can hear and what sounds like water moving around, particularly after I’ve eaten.

I am also burping a lot, even after drinking just water. And quite flactulant too.

I have an appetite and I’m not struggling to eat as such. No nausea.
I haven’t changed my diet. Apart from more fatty and sugary stuff over Christmas.

If anyone has anything similar, I’d be interested to hear.

If it had been mainly under your right side ribs then that is exactly what the early symptoms of my gallstones felt like.

Changethesettings · 06/01/2026 15:06

This is mostly left side

It is probably wind. But GP will confirm or have other ideas. I'm not an HCP.

What’s the AIBU?

Megsgs · 06/01/2026 15:09

For me it was gallbladder, typical is feeling it under your right which I did sometimes but had a lot of pain on the left but didn’t have any sounds

DeadMansBones · 06/01/2026 15:10

I had gallstones and felt general tightness all around my rib cage

Changethesettings · 06/01/2026 15:11

What’s the treatment for gallstones?

Removal of the gallbladder

Linoleum81 · 06/01/2026 15:19

I bet it’s your gallbladder.

10 years ago I had exact same symptoms but pain was extreme. Sent home from a&e multiple times. Googled symptoms and found a thread on Mumsnet where someone had similar and it turned out to be gallstones

What’s the treatment for gallstones?

Very low fat diet until you can get your gallbladder removed. There's no cure for gallstones

Trapped wind?
