Do nail lamps matter?

I bought Mylee gel products, but use a cheap lamp from Amazon. The nails simply peel off. I’ve followed all application instructions, prep etc. Could the lamp be to blame?

Do forum sections matter any more on Mumsnet?

KimberleyClark · 06/01/2026 13:37

You want the Style and Beauty forum. Couple of doors down.

Myles is rubbish that’s why

Yes, the lamp could possibly be to blame depending on what it is. LED lamps work much better and also will have a different/ quicker curing time to a UV lamp. I’ve always used the LED lamps from Mylee bought as a kit with their gels and never had a problem.

Nail prep is everything before application and avoid soaking in water afterwards as much as possible, rubber gloves for washing up, avoid a long bath, swimming etc for the first 24 hours.

Ooh really?! I didn’t know. I don’t have much experience, I bought what my nail tech used - it always stayed on when she did it though 😂

Yes. But are you prepping the nail? I use Mylee and only have issues if my prep was crap.

WorriedRelative · 06/01/2026 13:53

I have Mylee gels and they last fine for me if my prep is OK.

My lamp isn't the mylee one, but you do need to check your lamp is the right type for your gel. Using a uv light on led gel or vice versa will cause issues.

Make sure your base and top coat are the same brand. Use thin layers and cure for longer than the instructions say (I do 90 seconds)
