To cringe when I think about it...

On the stroke of midnight last night I'm doing the Happy New Year hugs - gets to dds boyfriend who is sat on the sofa next to her. I kind of lean down for a hug which in itself seemed a little awkward, but a hand shake or a fist bump didn't seem appropriate, but on the way down I stroked his hair like a mother would to a child 😱😱😱. I mean, I'm very fond of him as he's a good lad and is sooo good to dd, but I'm cringing that he might think i fancy him or that im some creepy lady. Why i did that idk - i can only put it down to alcohol!!
Please tell me you've done similar to make me feel better!!

I’ve definitely done similar

You’ve just got hangxiety. He won’t even remember this, let alone think you fancy him.

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 01/01/2026 10:28

You need to see him again as soon as possible and stroke his hair again. Just keep doing it for the rest of your life. It has to be your thing now. Maybe say "Who's a good boy?" to really up the weirdness.

This sounds like quite a sweet exchange where you didn’t want to just hug everyone and skip him out and it was slightly awkward to know exactly how much affection to show him.

I bet he’s not given it any thought beyond feeling glad to be included in your family the way he is!

Many years ago I accidentally kissed my aunty's ear while trying to give her a goodbye peck on the cheek - the latter wasn't unusual, but missing by a few centímetres and kissing her ear felt kind of gross 😂👂😘

Glad i'm not the only one who has had a cringe moment like this!
@Lmnop22 - absolutely, I didn't know how much affection to show. I like to think he's comfortable here in our company - he didn't do a runner overnight and is still here and very chirpy, at least he's not avoiding me!! 😅

That's why it's called the 'stroke' of midnight 😅

When I was 20 my boyfriends Dad went to give me a fist bump and for some unknown reason I grabbed his fist… still cringe about it now
