Someone is setting off fireworks down my street now. It’s unnecessary.

Then tomorrow it’s NYE, get idiots set fireworks from 2pm to 4am.

Not sure what eating animals or travelling had to do with anything, aside from ‘whataboutery’.

I'm also not Middle Aged. I'm 31.

If you educate yourself you'd know that flying has a much much bigger impact on animals than fireworks does.

id consider seeing someone to figure out why your mind goes to attack people so easily. You must be very lonely.

You cared enough to explain your reasons for travel. Personally I'd never be in this position, couldn't be me, but it would be more in keeping with the giving no fucks shtick not to try and justify your actions.

Nobody said they didn't. But any meat eater delivering lectures about fireworks would be in a glass house throwing stones. Just like pet owners, and air travellers.

Which is why other optional things like travel and non-essential driving get brought up on firework threads, and are relevant. Double standards. Pretty much everyone does things for their own enjoyment that cause damage to other humans, animals, the environment etc. So what that means is that if fireworks are to be criticised and limited for those reasons, it's open season on other things people like that have the same downsides.

Well, on topic - fireworks are a big BIG THING here. In fact on November 31st there is a barrage announcing the beginning of December / Christmas season. I used to be doo lally about them (thinking park displays, South Bank etc) but not so much fun when they are totally random. Like 3 am the other night/morning. The worst is polvera (gunpowder) which does nothing more than make a horrific explosion 🧨 A friend had a party the other weekend and hired a canopy since it was rainy. Someone chucked a polvera over the wall which burnt a hole in the plastic. Luckily no one got hurt. And she was not liable for 3rd party damages thank goodness (and for friend who is also a lawyer !) The older cat really reacts badly to them, the younger hides under the bed. Poor furries. Not to mention the birds. On NYE I will leave the radio on quite loud when I pop out to a balcony as it is quite a display - from a safe distance. But they could be any time of the day / night / year. It's just the locals like things that go BANG....even tho' the city has many organised events and really fab displays....🎇

You need to move, OP. When you get far enough out into the remote countryside, you can barely hear them!
