AIBU for saying yippee! And I'll clear up later, right now feet up, cuppa tea. Enjoy not having to do anything or interact with anyone. AIBU?
I do love them, btw. 😂

100% put your feet up! Enjoy!

WinterNightStars · 30/12/2025 14:21

Guests just left here too! I’m all peopled out 😂 Feet up with a brew here, chill time now. Enjoy!

Therewerelions · 30/12/2025 14:32

I'm with you op. The last guest left 2 hours ago and I am lying in bed with the lights off.
Socialising can get lost for the rest of the week.

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 30/12/2025 14:43

I'm quite looking forward to going to a movie on Friday. But nothing between now and that.
New Year's Eve can get in the bin! 😂

How long have they been staying?

Roastiesarethebestbit · 30/12/2025 14:48

Wow you all deserve a medal! My guests left 3 days ago!

coconutchocolatecream · 30/12/2025 14:48

Speaking as someone who likes her own space, YWNBU even if they had only stayed one night, or to be honest, all day without sleeping over. 😅

ShawnaMacallister · 30/12/2025 14:50

I never understand people who host for days on end over Christmas. Have they been with you an entire week? 😱

Areola · 30/12/2025 14:53

No one stays at mine (no need and no room) and it's bliss. I could never have someone in my space these days.

TangoWhiskeyAlphaTango123 · 30/12/2025 14:54

I have just dropped my two young adult DC to the train station. Love them to bits but the peace is just wonderful. I am going to have the afternoon on the sofa in silence watching Stranger Things.....lush!

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 30/12/2025 15:04

Ah I've given the wrong impression. They were here 3 nights - BUT in my defence I gave them my room, and I slept in a cold cold garden room. I was well wrapped up but it wasn't like being in my house, but that's what was needed.
Couldn't put them in the garden room because there's 3 of them, one a small child and one pregnant whereas I'm just me so I could hack it.
I get my bed back now though! 😍

Nothing better than getting your house (and bed!) back! Hosting is really draining and I don't miss it at all (apart from my DM). We don't host at all nowadays and like a pp said - BLISS!!!!

It's lovely isn't it?!

We had guests staying from Christmas Eve until the 27th, and although it's lovely having them and spending time together, waving them off is just as pleasurable!

annonymousse · 30/12/2025 15:33

Our guests for NYE have just cancelled due to illness. I'm so happy. They are good friends and I'm not happy they're ill but I'm all visitor'd out. Family have only just gone home from Christmas and my heart was sinking at the thought of more cooking and socialising. I've taken the decs down and reclaimed my house. After I've taken the dogs for a walk I'm going for a long bath.

Crucible · 30/12/2025 15:50

That's such a nice thing for you to have done OP, was the garden room very cold? We've had some chilly nights. Good for you getting your bed back.

We never lived near our sets of parents and often had them to stay for 1-2 weeks over the Christmas period. Never both at the same time though. It was exhausting, but they’re not here now, so glad we did. Thankfully DC like to stay at their own homes, so now our time to be hosted, or have a quiet time at home.

Wingedharpy · 30/12/2025 15:53

If it helps, I was the guest over Christmas and I was quietly cheering as I drove home yesterday.
Nothing like your own bed and cave IMHO.

Aw thanks! Yes freezing, I slept in a long nightie and fleecy pjs with a folded over duvet and my dressing gown all wrapped round me. I was fine and it was a bit of an adventure really because this is our new house and the garden room is mine, for art, so I want to be able to sleep in it sometimes but hadn't really bargained for the first times being so cold. I was fine though.
The pregnant one is my dd and the little one my dgd, so I wanted them to be here.
God knows how we're going to organise it all when there's another baby though! Space and beds being a bit tight already... 😂

You probably appreciate your cosy bedroom even more after having slept in a very cold room for several nights. For excellent and very altruistic reasons, but still it must have been a bit of an ordeal.

It's ways hard for me to share my home with people, no matter who they are, no matter how loved. The bliss of snuggling down in my new heated throw, tree lights a-twinkling and starting my new book. 😘

Thejackrussellsrule · 30/12/2025 16:37

Same here, sigh of relief, log burner lit, feet up.
I love them all, but hosting is stressful.

BauhausOfEliott · 30/12/2025 18:17

We drove our (lovely) guest home after three nights and then after we’d dropped them off, we treated ourselves to a night in a nice hotel on our way back. The sheer relief of sitting down by the fire in the hotel lounge, with drinks made for us by someone else, was such a joy.

That sounds spot on!
Think I might have a nice ginger wine in a bit, after a dinner of sausages, onions and mushrooms, broccoli and courgettes, and leftovers including turkey gravy...😋
