My friend smells

My friend eats a lot of raw garlic. I can always tell when she has because she smells. I saw her today and she stank so bad of garlic I could not go near her. I thought I was going to vomit. Should I tell her. The smell today was rank. She said she chews garlic because it's good for you

Yes, you should definitely let her know. Be kind but direct

OhnoOhnoOhnoooo · 28/12/2025 21:27

How awkward! I'd have to say something though.

falalalalaaaah · 28/12/2025 21:27

If it were me I’d want to know, so yeah tell her.

RobertaFirmino · 28/12/2025 21:30

Tell her kindly and present her with some garlic capsules to replace the raw cloves.

EezyOozy · 28/12/2025 21:40

You’ll have to tell her. It might not end well, she might distance herself … but you’re already having to do that so nothing to lose!

Quincette · 28/12/2025 21:42

I love the smell of garlic on breath. Having said that, I don’t know anyone that eats it raw, so it might not be as pleasant a smell.

LovesLabradors · 28/12/2025 21:45

YANBU - I can't stand the smell of garlic.
I used to love eating garlic in food, but then went off it during pregnancy for some reason, and have never liked it that much since.
My mum used to take garlic capsules which she said were odourless - but they weren't. I told her I could smell it on her - she'd had no idea previously.

CinnamonBuns67 · 28/12/2025 21:46

I love the smell of garlic but yes if it's bothering you to that extent then you should speak up, maybe request she uses the capsules rather than raw garlic.

soupyspoon · 28/12/2025 21:47

It makes me hungry when I smell garlic on someone!!

moto748e · 28/12/2025 21:52

Anyone who chews raw garlic is surely well aware of the effect on other people. I doubt reminding them would do much good.

HumbleStumble · 28/12/2025 23:29

Plot twist. OP is Dracula.

KabukiNoh · 28/12/2025 23:52

It doesn’t have to be awkward. At least there is a known and fixable cure so you can kind of say it in jokey way. It would be worse if the smell was due to poor hygiene.

ByeChristmas · 28/12/2025 23:55

Does she have a dp or kids? Wondering if anyone may have told her before you see.

Awkward but I’d want to be told.

GalaxyJam · 28/12/2025 23:56

If she chews raw garlic then she’ll already know she smells of garlic, obviously.
