My 5 year old little girl has got bruised shins, but they weren’t like that yesterday morning when getting ready for our Boxing Day party, she played with 5 of her cousins, and they were climbing up the bunk bed, jumped around, running around.

shes fine within herself but I have health anxiety and I always think of cancers. They’re just on her knees / shins

my husband says I’m being unreasonable and she’s fine, but am I?

They look like normal, childhood bruises especially given that she's been playing at climbing and jumping around.

I'm not a medical professional but that is pretty much what my active 4 year old daughter's legs look like all the time.

Badgerstmary · 27/12/2025 21:11

I work with 4 yr olds. Her legs look normal.

Catza · 27/12/2025 21:13

Are you getting help for your health anxiety?

OneOfEachPlease · 27/12/2025 21:14

This is very very normal. Are you having support for your health anxiety? I just ask because you’ve written it here is if it is a permanent fact rather than something that needs addressing.

Dagda · 27/12/2025 21:15

My children’s legs also look like this. They usually have a big scab on their knee as well.

It’s very normal. Not something to worry about.

FoxRedPuppy · 27/12/2025 21:18

Totally normal. Are you the same poster that was worried about a 5 day temperature? You need heparin for your health anxiety.

RudolphTheReindeer · 27/12/2025 21:18

My kids legs looked this all the time when they were little.

Lottie6712 · 27/12/2025 21:19

Looks like my 4 year old's legs!

Tammygirl12 · 27/12/2025 21:19

normal

letshavetea · 27/12/2025 21:21

These look completely normal for an active child. Hope you have support for yourself.

FoxRedPuppy · 27/12/2025 21:23

You are the same poster. And als asking about lung cancer after a cold in early December.

You have a very serious psychiatric condition. This isn’t just health anxiety, it is taking over and is in danger of impacting your children. I know someone who’s mum has health anxiety and it has really effected her too.

You need to find help, a psychiatrist and probably long term therapy.

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 27/12/2025 21:25

Look totally normal to me

mumstheword1x · 27/12/2025 21:37

Looks normal to me? Xx

mindutopia · 27/12/2025 21:38

Looks totally normal to me.

Endofyear · 28/12/2025 00:30

Very normal. Most 5 year olds have bumps and bruises!

It's worrying that your anxiety is at such a level that a couple of bruises makes you jump straight to thinking 'cancer'. You do need to get some help and support for your health anxiety so you can model healthy behaviour for your child. I have a friend who suffers OCD which manifests as healthy anxiety - it has rubbed off on her children who now use feeling ill as a means of getting attention. It's not a healthy way to grow up so address it now while your little one is small.

Shutuptrevor · 28/12/2025 01:00

It’s really worrying that you’ve got her to sit sti and have a photo taken of her legs. You are going to pass your issues on to her if you don’t sort yourself out.

Seriestwo · 28/12/2025 01:02

I also think you are overly anxious. Have a chat with your GP, you’ll wear yourself out.

Bones101 · 28/12/2025 02:20

Legs look perfectly normal (physican)

Health anxiety can be so hard when you have young children. My own mum had it with us. See you gp to help you or even better a therapist. Happy new year!

PollyBell · 28/12/2025 02:21

Get help with your issues so you dont pass them on to her
