Thankful for present obsessed MIL

After reading so many threads about husbands buying crap presents I have realised I should be thankful for the gift giving tyranny of my MIL. She was notoriously difficult to please and would openly tell her husband and children if they got her bad gifts. They lived in fear of getting it wrong. I always thought this was awful but I realise now that I benefit from it.

When it comes to Xmas presents DH obsesses over what I want.
We don’t have a lot of money so gifts are only small things pyjamas and chocolates but he always buys ones that fit and chocolates I like.

Sadly MIL is now unwell with dementia and doesn’t remember any of us but I am very thankful for the standards she set.

It demonstrates something that is often thought. When men are useless, it can come down to mothers not teaching them, however much we don't like to blame other women. Then you either have a man baby or you have to knock yourself out trying to educate them.

Good for his mother!

I have also never had to buy birthday and Christmas cards/ presents for his family. Not that I would if he didn’t.

I love this OP. Too much fluff these days and not enough saying what you mean and mean what you say. Your husbands mother set the bar high and you are reaping the rewards.
