Im lazy
I talk sloppy
I spend most of my time horizontal
Nothing positive because she regrets having children 40 years later! Other than that had a great xmas !

"Sorry about that Mum, in that case it's best we don't talk or see each other again as I'm so awful. Have a nice life!"

Nasty.

Kayleighfish · 26/12/2025 08:15

Oh heck.

Why did she say these things?

Eenameenadeeka · 26/12/2025 08:17

Oh dear, maybe celebrate Christmas without her next year.

Do you genuinely think it would be ok to say that to your daughter?

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 26/12/2025 08:18

Have you recognised that how she feels is her problem not yours? And that you can live your life perfectly happily regardless of her attitude?

It’s a lot easier to be happy when you stop trying to please your parents!

Oh look, your mother turned up 🙄

pictoosh · 26/12/2025 08:21

Sorry your day was guff OP. Some people cannot help themselves from being incredibly negative. They are unhappy and want you to join them, even (and sometimes especially) at Christmas.
Boo.

pictoosh · 26/12/2025 08:22

See curious79's post for reference.

BandedSnail · 26/12/2025 08:23

Just to join in, my Mum loves to tell me how wonderful my SIL, stepsister and cousin are and how much they do for her.

I, on the other hand, just keep disappointing her.

SpringIsSprung1 · 26/12/2025 08:38

I asked my mum once, what she thought were my best features. Her reply after some thought... "Well you've got quite nice legs and you love animals and that goes a long way!!"

TinselTina · 26/12/2025 08:49

In response to people who say I'm lazy. I have a child. I work 4 days a week. After work I tend to go the the gym/ walk our dogs/ parent. Like most people I suppose. My siblings who has 2 weeks off over Xmas comes empty handed every year and is great. Again, it is not my fault you regret kids.

And your manner are terrible. It's considered bad form to criticise someone's spelling and grammar, unless the poster makes a grammatical error in a post criticisng someone else's grammar. Then that poster is fair game.

TinselTina · 26/12/2025 09:00

Also apparently I'm a fussy eater. I will eat anything so that is completely untrue.

BCBird · 26/12/2025 09:04

Make decisive one of your qualities. Don't spend Christmas with her.

BeMintFatball · 26/12/2025 09:11

@TinselTina you have my sympathy. My mother regularly tells me she should never of had a family. I am an only child 😵‍💫.

TinselTina · 26/12/2025 09:36

I only have 1 child because I know my limitations. My MIL can't believe how critical she is.

OP posts:
Tablesandchairs23 · 26/12/2025 09:55

I'd leave her to it and go low or no contact. Don't let it be your problem.

Stompythedinosaur · 26/12/2025 09:55

That's a horrible, totally unreasonable thing to say to you.

Same.

she plays everybody off against each other…and is now heartbroken that the family is fractured and nobody speaks to each other.

🤷‍♀️

CrowMate · 26/12/2025 10:01

Grim. Note she regrets having children, though - so your sibling isn’t missing out entirely.
It sounds like you can see her criticisms are unfounded, so although hurtful, I hope they lack the impact they might have had if true.
