My son has been fine all day and then ate a lot this evening when we had a picky tea, including Christmas lunch earlier and has just thrown up twice.
I’ve only ever seen him do this when he’s had a stomach bug, so it’s a bit odd.
He doesn’t have a fever or anything.

Quite possible that's its too much food, or food he's not used to. Added in with excitement, lack of sleep and a different rhythm to the day.
Fingers crossed he's back to normal tomorrow.

Did he have a lot of salty food? My daughter always throws up if she has too many salty nibbles.

Overthebow · 25/12/2025 22:00

If he’d thrown up once then maybe, but twice sounds more like a bug.

Eenameenadeeka · 25/12/2025 22:01

Agree with pp, I think it would be once if it was from eating too much

NotAnotherScarf · 25/12/2025 22:01

That was me last night, lots of picking, some fizzy drinks and blurrr.

Mobiwhale · 25/12/2025 22:03

It was twice in a row, so one episode I’d call it.

We haven’t been anywhere for him to pick up a bug and 30 minutes beforehand he was playing and being totally normal.

If he doesn't throw up again its likely just from eating too much. If he throws up again or has diarrhoea, likely a bug...good luck.

Mobiwhale · 25/12/2025 22:06

He’d had salty food - nibbles like crisps, pork pies, spring rolls etc. then a piece of Christmas cake, earlier in the day was the big Christmas lunch and he’s been having biscuits and chocolates in between, plus two small cans of fizzy pop.

We literally haven’t been anywhere for him to catch a bug, that’s the weird thing. We’ve been indoors apart from rural walks since Monday.

He’s asleep now so we’ll see if he’s sick again. Very strange unless it’s food poisoning but the rest of us are fine atm.

My DS8 has done this a few times in the past when eating too much. Normally fine after he’s been sick.

Mobiwhale · 25/12/2025 22:14

He’s asleep now so won’t know how he is until morning. Unless he wakes in the night.

I babysat my 7 year old niece a few weeks ago. Let her have sausage and chips for lunch, a milkshake and then all you can eat pizza for dinner. She threw up in the pizza restaurant toilet and I learnt that there are limits to being a fun auntie.

My daughter's had this happen a few times. Actually it was frequent for a while maybe 3 times a week. Never seen the gp so when I took her they referred on to paediatrician. The paediatrician did a pretty full check up, the culprit? Drinking too much- especially squash. When we have a gathering I watch like a hawk or she eats/drinks too much and is sick 1-2 times. Apparently by age 12 she should be able to avoid overeating.
