Am I being ungrateful?

A few days ago I accidentally saw an Xmas gift DH has brought me- he doesn’t know. We share an Amazon account and he pre-warned me not to look at the orders, but I checked a delivery time for something else and saw it!

It was one of those clay handprint framed craft things- a family one including DS. He’s just come in and put it wrapped under the tree. There’s no chance he’s done the craft as DS has been to nursery in the day and we’ve all been together in the evenings. AIBU to be miffed that he’s basically just brought me an extra thing to do, and hasn’t gone to the effort of actually finishing the gift?

Maybe he thought you’d like to be part of making it? I see your point as well though, men are usually rubbish at things like this.

Chiseltip · 23/12/2025 20:35

Yes. The whole point of those type of gifts is that you make it together. The gift is the experience and memories of making the piece.

If its a whole family one surely he'd have to wait to be able to do it with you?

Why do you have to do it, when you open it you say how lovely daddy will do this on the weekend. If he hasn’t then get him to return the gift.

BOUGHT.

Yabvu - the point is to make it together!

TwinklyGoldReader · 23/12/2025 20:37

I get the point that the gift is the experience of doing it together, I hadn’t considered it that way. I just see it as he didn’t know what to get so quickly ordered that. I would have been thrilled to open a lovely thoughtful (complete) one!

Seemed pretty meaningful to me.

It’s a nice gift. You’re looking for trouble when there isn’t any. What have you got him?

I could well be. From DS I got him a framed painting of a photo I took of them both, whilst on holiday in the Summer.

Yes, you are being very ungrateful for what sounds like a lovely gift.

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 23/12/2025 21:21

Definitely being unreasonable

The idea is to do it together
