Debts whilst pregnant

So myself and my partner have some debts (manageable) as we did our house up last year so have some credit cards and have some loans which are due to end in the next 2/3 years.
found out I’m pregnant which was a surprise as it wasnt planned, however we’ve worked out with my partners wage and my NHS mat leave we’ll just about get by. I know family would support if needed and if things got very bad!

My friend is also pregnant, we was speaking about mat leave pay and she said she is saving £1000 a month (will have around 6/7k) so she and her partner can be comfortable, I get this and if I could do it, I would! Sadly our finances just don’t allow us to save that much if anything.

Its made me feel really crappy, like I’m failing and will possibly have to cut back on things until I go back to my full wage. I know people manage but it’s just dawned on me how crap our finances are at present and how I wish we could save more.

Firstly, congratulations! This really has very little to do with being pregnant or not, more of a wake up call to better money management. If you can start on a plan now to pay off the debts as quickly as possible and be mindful of sourcing some big ticket baby items preloved you will be in a good positive mindset for when your little one arrives, all the best for the future & hope you have a lovely Christmas too x
