Paying Council Tax ...

I don't want to set up a Direct Debit - I want to do a Bank transfer - so I thought I'd look up the details and set it up in good time.
I only have to do two payments to take me to 31st March and I will not be paying it after that and I know there's a direct debit guarantee but I want to be in control.

So the bank details don't match when my bank verifies them. I try a different version of the council name and the bank then suggests a different account to put money into at the council.
Is it too much to ask for them to have the right details to allow my bank to verify their account before I send what is quite a large chunk of money over?

Anyway I emailed them 8 days ago and got no response. So I've resent the email.

I know I can ring up and use their automated system but that'll mean me putting numbers in over the phone and that's just too much stress.

Surely this could be cleared up with a simple phone call?

Yeah I tried to pay extra on my mortgage which is with the bank that I bank with but the details they supplied wouldn't verify on their own system.
I used to work for them which makes it doubly worse. They have most definitely gone downhill since I left 😂
